If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have my first business trip of 2015 tomorrow. It should be a good trip since I’m visiting one of my favorite clients and squeezing in a dinner with a friend who happens to live close to them (How close? The closest Starbucks to her house is the closest Starbucks to their office!). Still, I hate having to give up one day of my weekend to business travel.

Have you planned your summer vacation yet?

If we were having coffee, I would have to tell you how much I love What You Can When You Can, the new book by the most awesome Carla  Birnberg and the most amazing Roni Noone. The image below is an affiliate link for Amazon.com, but this is not a sponsored review.  I paid for my own pre-ordered copy and will be ordering more to share with a few friends.

Now, I wouldn’t give a diet book to a friend, but this is not a diet book. Instead, Carla and Roni explain how you can meet your fitness goals by taking small steps and making little choices that add up and pay off in the long run. The #WYCWYC mentality really captures how I have managed to maintain my weight loss and get healthier without following a strict meal plan or working out for more than one hour a day.

Have you seen the #wycwyc hashtag on Twitter?

While I’m talking about Carla and Roni, I might as well remind you that it’s not too late to register for Fitbloggin’ in Denver June 24-27. (Roni is the founder of Fitbloggin’ and Carla will be a speaker!)  Click here to register through my new affiliate link.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I did plant some herbs last month and I am loving them! I am adding cilantro and parsley to everything–the fragrance of fresh-cut herbs just can’t be beat!

We haven’t made much progress on our kitchen remodeling plans, but I think I will crash some open houses in our neighborhood to get some ideas.

Do you ever do that?

If we were having coffee, I would remind you that it’s Mother’s Day next weekend. I’m so excited about the gift I found for my Mom, but I won’t spill the beans just in case she’s reading. 😉

How are you spending the first weekend in May?

We love going through open houses in our neighborhood! And great point about not giving a ‘diet’ book to a friend, but wycwyc is not a diet book – I think of it as a pocket cheerleader telling you that you’re doing a great job. Love your herbs! And thanks for the link up tips – see, I took your advice and got in on the link up early 🙂

  2. Love fresh herbs. I do thyme and rosemary but never have good luck with anything else. I will check out the book and like Carrie, linked up early !

Also, I wanted to ask you… I read your post on great plug ins. Many people have asked if they can sign up to receive a notice when I have a new post. I am assuming it is some kind of email notification plug in ? Can you suggest one ? I see you have that feature. Thank you !

    • Coco says:

Parsley, cilantro and mint grow like weeds around here — once you get them started!

It’s great that you have readers who don’t want to miss a post! The “subscribe by email” option is from the “Subscriptions” feature of the Jetpack plug-in. If you have Jetpack it should be something you can add via the pre-set widget options.

  4. I hope to plant my herbs early next week. I have a very green thumb, but my biggest challenge is keeping my ground hog out of it!

Hope your business trip goes well, and that you have some time to have fun. Have a great weekend!

    • Coco says:

You can see I have mine on my patio. They are doing ok but the squirrels keep looking for something in my flower pots!

  5. good morning! I am running a 5K this morning thru Bok Tower! Enjoy your business trip! my hubby is on one so I have the house to myself 🙂 We did a few summer long weekends planned so I am excited about that! Have a great weekend!

  6. Your herbs look great! So excited to start to see fresh green buds on everything. Loving spring. Can you believe it’s the first weekend in May! This runner dance mom will be filling the weekend with a dance recital and a 5K. All so appropriate. Thank you for the coffee date! It’s been fun!!

  7. I am jealous that you are going to fit blogging! I really wish there were some east coast conventions. That book sounds interesting I curious to see your full review. Thanks for catching up over coffee!

  8. I’m totally thinking it’s time to get the herbs planted– we’ve had our typical cool spring with some mornings in the 30’s so I always like to wait until Mother’s Day but I might just have to do some planting tomorrow!! Bring on Summer!!

    • Coco says:

They have been saying it’s safer to wait one more week, but I think the danger of frost is over here. Thanks for joining us for coffee!

  9. HoHo Runs says:

Anything I plant usually gets eaten by the squirrels but I would like to somehow grow herbs. I’ll have to put some thought into that. I like the WYCWYC mentality. You can also look at houses for sale on-line to view pictures of the kitchens. Have a wonderful weekend.

    • Coco says:

I think there are window box kits for herbs? But that could get messy with the kind that like a lot of room! Good idea to check the on-line house tours!

  10. Isn’t it great having fresh herbs?! Ours are going in this weekend now that the frost is finally over. Always great to catch up for coffee! Have a good trip 🙂

  11. Marcia says:

Seriously how did Mother’s Day sneak up so fast! For once I’m prepared with a gift for my mom, who is impossible to buy for. Hope you enjoy your business trip!

I haven’t heard of that book, but I really like the philosophy of “what you can when you can!” :]

Yay for herbs! I can’t wait til I’m settled down somewhere–I want my own herb + vegetable garden! *-*

    • Coco says:

You should check it out – especially in your field I’m sure you encounter people who could use some #wycwyc advice!

  14. I can’t wait for the day I can have a little herb garden. I live in an apartment in NYC right now, so it’s not possible. And I’m also really excited about the gift I got my mom :). Have a great weekend! Thanks for the link up!

  15. Meghan says:

I just love fresh, home grown herbs! My basil plant, the ultimate diva, however didn’t fare well through the fall and winter so I think it needs to be replaced. But I also want to expand and get some more plants, thanks for the inspiration! Also I love practical, helpful, inspirational books which is exactly what ‘What You Can When You Can’ sounds like- I definitely need to check it out!

    xoxo,
    Meghan

    • Coco says:

My basil is the scrawniest, but it’s holding it’s own. I’m sure Amazon will let you preview WYCWYC – I think once you start you’ll be hooked.

  16. I hope to attend a Fit Bloggin one of these days. I have not heard of the book, so thanks for sharing. Have a great trip and fabulous weekend 🙂

  17. Jessica S says:

I’m loving that book too and LOVE the podcast! That whole approach is just so rational. 🙂

  18. Glenneth says:

love, love, love #wycwyc! listen to their podcasts all the time. MUST read the book (i do own it).

    • Coco says:

Ah, you will love the book too! It’s an easy read and has short chapters if you only have a few minutes.

  19. wycwyc – how awesome!! Such is the life I would like to live!!

Plants look great! I should do something like that….

Have a safe trip and enjoy your time with your friend!

  20. I’ll have to check out WYCWYC, sounds interesting. Enjoy spending time with your friend and scoping out ideas for your kitchen remodel. I also have to work this weekend but I’ll also be checking out the new Avengers movie. Have a great May!

  21. LOVE the #WYCWYC mentality. 🙂

    Thanks for hosting the link-up!!

  22. thanks for hosting! i finally got around to planting our summer herbs today 🙂

  23. Kim says:

I love going to open houses just to get ideas for things around the house. It only resulted in us moving “just because” once:)
I had thought about trying to make Fitbloggin’ this year because I could drive but I think that will be the week right before or possible the opening week for our new business so I don’t know if I can be gone now.

  24. Im addicted to going through open houses!! When we lived in a little town south of where we live now, I had been in almost every house in town lol!
I’ll have to check out that book. I run constantly and cannot lose weight, I need any help I can get.
I haven’t planned any summer trips, we probably won’t go on a big trip. However, we go camping all the time!

    • Coco says:

Camping sounds like a great way to get away and get a break. I do like seeing other people’s houses …. although it feels weird when they are your neighbors vs. strangers.

  25. Victoria says:

I would love an herb garden! I have a small apartment in DC right now, but next place I’ll make that little garden a reality 🙂

  26. Jess@ Flying Feet says:

I haven’t heard of #wycwyc at all. Looks like a great book/movement! I have been meaning to plant some herbs and flowers yet I keep finding myself too busy with other things constantly! I just recently became a personal trainer and still working full time in the pharmacy so zero time for much else lol haven’t even thought about summer vaca! I did spend part of the first May weekend outdoors with a happy trail run!

  27. I love the idea of #wycwyc and wrote about it on my blog a while back. I look forward to checking out the book. Thanks for hosting!

    • Coco says:

You can get the book on Amazon now and it’s even been spotted in Barnes & Noble. So cool to see “friends” bring their idea into reality.

  28. Your herb garden looks so nice! I’m working on mine and looking forward to see how it grows! I’m planning a trip to Charleston this summer, first time going – looking forward to it!

  29. Yummy. Love fresh herbs. I raid my parents garden during our Monday night family dinners.
