This weekend my husband and I decided to go on our own cherry blossoms biking tour. We parked along the GW Parkway in Virginia, and rode our bikes over the 14 Street Bridge to the Jefferson Memorial, Tidal Basin, and Hains Point.
Not all of the trees are in bloom yet!
It’s hard to match the pictures I took on my sunrise run last year, but I think these are worth sharing.

It’s hard to capture the beauty of the lines of trees — it’s really worth a visit!
I enjoyed Hains Point much more on my bike!
Biking was a great way to see the cherry blossoms. It was slow going around the Tidal Basin, where we mostly walked our bikes, but Hains Point was not very crowded and the cars were driving slowly looking for parking spaces, so I didn’t feel like my life was in danger riding on the road. We ended up covering about 10 miles, but it was a very easy ride that didn’t tire my legs out too much on the eve of the GW Parkway Classic 10 Miler.
Have you gotten to see the cherry blossoms in peak bloom?
Do you take time to play tourist in your home town?
I’ve only been to DC once – Jan 93 for Clinton’s inaugural parade. I graduated from the same high school so we were invited (dance squad, cheerleaders, band). There were definitely no cherry blossoms that day! I would love to be there when they were in full bloom though.
It’s really hard to plan ahead, but this year I think the prediction that the National Park Service made ws pretty much dead on, despite our crazy weather! The first warm weekend in April encouraged them, I think!
We have some trees around here that are similar (not quite as nice as the cherry blossoms) and I love seeing them in bloom. I know lots of people hate it because it bothers their allergies but they are so pretty!!
The cherry blossoms are so beautiful. I would love to make it to the DC area sometime during April.
Love these pics! I miss DC. Now that my kids are getting older, I miss it especially. I hope we’ll be able to take them for a visit someday soon.
