Now that it’s March 7 (Happy 20th Birthday to my son!), the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler is less than one month away. Today I have a post on the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run blog about “How I’m Training For The Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run.” (Please click through and check it out!) The problem is, I haven’t been training for the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler as much as I want to.
While I was pleased to be able to run in Copenhagen two weeks ago, those were relatively easy runs, not hardcore training runs. Last week I got in a few good runs, but this week I hit some roadblocks.
You see, even though it’s March, this is what my neighborhood streets look like.
And, after 13 years of reliable service, this is what my treadmill looks like.
The repairman left it disassembled until the replacement parts come in because it was unsafe to use. 🙁
As much as I was getting sick of plodding along on the treadmill, I have really missed it! Yesterday I used the treadmill at my office gym, but I don’t use the gym often enough to have a good routine. I had to take time Wednesday night to pack for getting ready for work at the gym–and still I forgot deodorant!–and I started my treadmill workout at about the same time I’d usually be wrapping up my workout at home. Although I was at my desk a bit earlier than usual, I still had to scarf down my Starbucks breakfast and squeeze in some social media “me time” before I could start my day.
My favorite Starbucks breakfast:
Grande Bold Coffee + Low Fat Turkey Bacon Sandwich
(with egg and cheese)
I just felt discombobulated without my normal morning routine. 🙁
I’m crossing my fingers that my treadmill gets fixed tomorrow, and that we have seen the last snow for at least a few months!
How do you adapt to changes in your daily routine?
If you shower at the gym, do you keep a gym bag fully stocked with everything you need?
You are not alone in being sick of the ice and snow, which have made this winter super challenging for exercising outdoors. I do outdoor boot camp three mornings/week and run two or three times/week. I have no treadmill, no gym, and work out of my home. I’ve done just four home workouts all winter, provided by my outdoor fitness company — BbG Fitness of Arlington — for the worst, single digit days — but they still held class and a few diehards still showed up. Yesterday it was low 20’s out there and the wind was really cold, but I think we’ve seen the last of it! It’s 29 now at 6:30 am as I head out to meet my running group, and it’s going up into the 60’s by the end of the week, halleluia!
We always look back with pride that we got out there no matter the weather, and I do love to see the seasons change and experience nature almost every day year-round, and we do always warm up. But enough is enough — good riddance to the brutal cold and bad weather!
It’s funny how my perspective has changed. The low 20s feels GREAT as long as it’s not windy! 😉
Oh I’m sorry your treadmill went down. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and you can back outside. It’s suppose to warm up here so I’m hoping to run outside this weekend!
I WILL run outside this weekend – the question is where! Everything that was shoveled or plowed is fine, but if not, it’s still snowy and icy.
Coco, not sure where you live but just ran 4 miles on the W&OD Trail in Arlington-Falls Church and it was fine, just one icy patch.
Fantastic! That’s where I plan to run tomorrow — need to get in some hills!
Oh no! Without a treadmill I’d be stuck this winter, too. It’s such a mess out there! Well, I’m glad you didn’t say you were injured! Hopefully you can catch up on your training soon.
I need to make up my 5 by the 5th run!
Oh – your treadmill is making me sad!!! I hope it’s fixed soon – I used to do the whole workout/shower at work thing and I always hated it – pretty sure I forgot something every single time!!
Hope your snow melts soon!
I feel like I’ve forgotten everything at least once!
OMG NO!!!! Your treadmill looks like it’s on LIFE SUPPORT!!! 🙁 I would be distraught for sure. And those roads, NO THANK YOU – that’s a broken leg or bruised booty just waiting to happen, LOL!
I totally understand what you’re going through though – I cannot veer off my morning routine or else my whole day will just be completely OFF!
Oh no!! Sorry to hear about your treadmill! Very bad timing. I hope it gets fixed soon.
I’ve said this many times but I cannot believe how much snow you guys have gotten! I don’t remember it ever snowing that much in the 8 years I lived there! I really do hope it is over for you guys. And I hope you guys have a wonderfully mild summer after enduring this winter.
Hope your snow melts and that your treadmill is fixed.
This is my second year running Cherry Blossom and I have decided never again. LOL I am terrible at getting my runs in during the winter, and I don’t have a treadmill at home so I am waaaay behind on my training! I did my first “real” run yesterday and I know I’m going to blink and it’ll be race morning and I’ll be in real trouble. Bah. Fortunately I have no expectations as far as my time… as long as I don’t get swept!!
You’ve still got a few weeks to get ready – the weather should be great this week!
I feel your same sentiments! 🙂 Lets home spring is on the way very soon!
