I Am Enough For Advent

Today is the second Sunday of Advent, the “season” in the Christian church calendar when we get ready for Christmas. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we also watch for signs of His presence in our lives today, and look forward to His promised return.

This week I was too busy with work to even think about decorating or shopping, but I did make time for the on-line Advent calendars I am following.

My favorite meditation this week was the December 2 entry from the Advent Pinterest board by the Society of Saint John the Evangelist.

WONDER | Dec 2nd | Here’s a suggestion: we could all take a rest from trying to be better persons, we could take a rest from our projects of self ... (double-click the image for full meditation)

It made me think of the “I Am Enough” project that Jill started earlier this year, and led me to see that project in an even more important light.

Mary was enough, even though she was a poor, unwed young woman.

Joseph was enough, even though he was a simple carpenter.

Jerusalem was enough, even though it was not the expected birthplace of a king.

John the Baptist was enough, even though he wore clothes made of camel’s hair and ate locusts with wild honey.

The apostles were enough, even though they were a ragtag bunch (mostly fishermen and a tax collector).

Paul was enough, even though he used to persecute Jesus’ followers.

The cross was enough, even though it was designed to execute criminals.

We are enough, never mind our “even though”s.

Prayer for the second week of Advent
As we plan and make decisions, God be our way.
As we learn and ask questions, God be our truth.
As we grow and change, God be our life.

Do you have a hard time accepting that you are enough?

Have you ever considered that your “flaws” might be part of the wonder of your unique creation?

  1. As I get more mature with age (haha!) I’m beginning to accept my flaws and see they really aren’t that. My flaws make me ME and that is what makes it special.

I think I may keep myself busy so much that I rarely have time to think about it? I know I get down especially this time of year as I’m not super close to family, BUT I try to see the positive – yay for you reflecting upon this!

    Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this – most of the time I’m OK with myself but the past few months I’ve felt very inadequate!!!

I don’t have a problem with everything being enough. But it wasn’t always that way. The trick, keep a gratitude journal to write down 3-5 things you are grateful for each day. A mind shift occurs and you realize everything I need right now, I have. You begin to appreciate the here and now. 😉

thank you for the advent information.
