Three Things Thursday (The Skeevy Travel Edition)

I am only three days into my seven day business trip but I am already struggling with being away from home. For some reason, during this trip more than others I have been skeeved out by the run-of-the-mill unsanitary conditions of traveling.

  1. Being barefoot in my hotel room. I try to avoid this at all costs, even if that means keeping my shoes on when all I really want to do is kick them off. I will lay a path of towels from the bathroom to my suitcase if I forget to bring sock or shoes into the bathroom.
  2. Using the bathroom near the end of a 5-hour flight. I try not to think of how many people have used the bathroom before me, but it is hard when I’ve seen the constant line for the only two lavatories. I know public restrooms get lots of use, but I’m pretty sure those are cleaned more frequently, and they have more room so it is easier to avoid contact with skeevey surfaces.
  3. Doing floor work in the hotel gym. I usually hop on the treadmill or elliptical, so I avoid being on the floor of hotel gyms, but my physical therapy routine requires me to spend 45 minutes doing plank variations, leg lifts, and other floor exercises. I am using several gym towels on top of the mat that I have no confidence has ever been cleaned. Ever.

Are there skeevy things about traveling that gross you out if you think about them too much?

Do you lose track of time when you travel? I keep having to stop and think to remember what day it is!

so so few things gross me out—EXCEPT NUMBER one.
    entirely.
like two layered pairs of socks entirely.

  2. I don't mind walking barefoot in my hotel room. Unless you lick your feet or are constantly touching them then your face-you're good. Take a shower and sanitize but don't overdo it. It's healthy to be exposed to germs because new strains are born frequently so if you're not immune to the basic ones-you're screwed.

  3. Eeeww. I never thought about the floors in hotels. I'm always spazzy about the bedspreads and the remote controls.

    Travel safe!

I've never really thought about that kind of stuff.. When it's nice out I like to do my floor work outside.. like on the grass.. probably where my dog and other dogs have pee'd. Guess I'm gross! :p
Or, the rain washed it away.

I am a total space case when I'm not in my regular work routine. I always have no idea what the date is, or what day of the week it is. I also stop paying attention to the clock, and all the sudden have a whacked out sleep schedule!
I really don't think about gross stuff- I shower, I wash my hands and do all that good stuff-but I really don't think about germs in every day life.

I know if I think about it, I'll immediately freak out…so I try not to. 😉

  7. I lose track of the days always! I thought today was Saturday. I do my best to avoid those airplane bathrooms. And I will NOT use the pillows and blankets. Yes, I am the kook who sanitized her tray and buttons on a plane.

  8. Beth says:

I HATE walking barefoot on hotel floors…and also find lots of ways to avoid it, including the towel on the floor thing.

I try to focus on my goals and other things so I won't think about those and be more productive =) mytravelfitness.com
