Sunrise Runs In Washington D.C.

It’s no secret that I run at o’dark-thirty in the morning, and when you see these pictures, I think you’ll understand why. There are so many magnificent monuments in Washington D.C., and they are even more glorious at dawn. Here’s what I saw on one of my recent sunrise runs.

Training For Spring Races

Even though it’s still January, it’s time I start doing more than just thinking about training for my spring races. For a while, the first race on my calendar for 2015 was the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run on April 12, but last weekend I signed up for the Reston 10 Miler on March 1–that’s barley five weeks away!

Training For Spring Races
All of my spring races are 10 milers. I’m not concerned about the distance because my weekend long runs are usually 8-10 miles, but I need to make sure I am ready for the hills. The Cherry Blossom course is mostly flat, but the first part of the GW Parkway Classic has its share of hills, and the Reston 10 Miler is all rolling hills.  Continue reading

No Excuses? No Problem!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me share photos with the #NoExcuses hashtag. That’s because I am participating in the Sweat Pink#NoExcuses challenge.

Augusta Active, Shower Pill, ActivMotionBar, FlipBelt, and Beaming with Health are offering prizes, but I’m mostly in it for the fun. Maybe that’s why I was stopped in my tracks when I saw Erin Brown’s Facebook post complaining about the “no excuses” fitness mantra.   Continue reading

A Day In My Life

My favorite part of blogging is getting to know other bloggers, and learning how much we have in common, even if we come from different backgrounds, have different perspectives, and live different lives. While I enjoy learning what others think about “big” issues, I also love getting glimpses into others’ daily lives. In that spirit, I am joining with other bloggers to share the minutiae of a typical day in my life.

A Day In My Life

My alarm goes off at 5:00 am and my day starts by taking Tiger Lilly for a walk.
Our usual “around the block” loop is 0.9 miles. Continue reading

Shining The Light On Old Journals

One of the “presents” my Mom gave me for Christmas was an old notebook she found that I had used for doodling and story writing when I was 12.

Journal

I honestly don’t remember writing the cartoons, stories or doodles that fill its pages, but I do remember being a girl who could have written them. Flipping through the pages, it is clear that I watched way too much television (the M*A*S*H* doodles on the cover remind me that I watched that show on a regular basis) and was interested in advertising (there are several cartoons of commercials and magazine ads). They also show me that I already was my own worst critic, as several stories are annotated with editorial critiques!  Continue reading
