Five Things That Frustrate Runners

Today’s Friday Five theme is “favorites” but since today is tax day* I thought it might be more fitting to share five things that frustrate runners.

FIVE THINGS THAT FRUSTRATE RUNNERS

*If you aren’t ready to file your taxes yet, this year you actually have until April 18 because today is a legal holiday in Washington, D.C., in observance of Emancipation Day. Emancipation Day marks the day that President Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Emancipation Act, which ended slavery in Washington, D.C. Continue reading

Jailed By Judgmentalism

I generally do not think of myself as a judgmental person, but there are certain areas where I find it hard not to judge others. I confessed as much on Carla’s blog, and admitted that the circumstances say more about me than about whomever I’m judging.

Judgmental
While it’s never nice to judge, I tend to think it’s harmless since I usually keep my snarky comments to myself and only roll my eyes if no one else is looking. But I’ve come to realize that judgmentalism hurts us all because it leads us to keep our struggles to ourselves.  Continue reading

Facing The Reality Of Needing Recovery

My spring race schedule doesn’t leave much time for rest and recovery. The Reston 10 Miler was exactly one month before the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run last weekend, and the George Washington Parkway Classic 10 miler is only two weeks away. With that in mind, I jumped back into my regularly scheduled workout program last week, but after Saturday’s long run I realized that my legs are tired and need time to refresh if I want to make the best of the Parkway Classic.

Favorite Restaurant Meals In Arlington Virginia

My husband and I usually have a “date night” every weekend, and it usually involves going out to dinner. As we were deciding where to go last weekend, I realized that I have a favorite thing to order at most of the restaurants we go to, and tend to order the same thing almost every time.

Favorite Restuarant Meals

For today’s Friday Five Link Up, I’m going to share five of my favorite restaurant meals, which all happen to be at restaurants in Arlington, Virginia. See what other food things people are talking about today over at EatPrayRunDC, MarOnTheRun and You Signed Up For What?! Continue reading

Being Brave Does Not Mean Being Fearless

I don’t think of myself as a brave person. I’m a rule-follower–especially safety rules. As a kid, I always read the brochure in the seat back pocket in front of me and looked around for the nearest emergency exit. As a teenager, I shied away from a lot of risky behavior because I was afraid of the consequences. Becoming a parent probably brought my first lessons in real bravery, when I had to navigate scary situations without showing my fear. Then my husband thought I should learn how to use clipless cycling shoes.

Facing Down Fears And Being Brave

When I was learning to use clipless shoes (which clip to the pedals for extra power), I had to face down my fears every time I got on my bike. That’s because for the first few weeks almost every ride ended with my knees looking like this. Continue reading
