I know that even the kindest bloggers have their trolls, but the little corner of the blogosphere that I spend my time in is overwhelmingly supportive. We cheer each other on as we train for and complete a big goal race. We sympathize when an injury derails our plans. We laugh with each other over our runfessions. As cathartic as it can be to curse in traffic or vent about how someone else has wronged you, it’s much more uplifting to share a smile–or a wave.

Last week the new Orange Theory Fitness studio near me held its “preview” week with unlimited free classes for those who signed up in advance and had been stalking their Facebook page eagerly awaiting their opening since March. I managed to squeeze in three classes at three different times of day with two different instructors. So, what is Orange Theory Fitness all about?

Do you eat to run or run to eat? My snug jeans are proof that you can’t out-run a bad diet, but running does help me burn off most of my excess calories. Since my favorite race distance is the 10 miler, I don’t have to worry too much about how to fuel my runs, but I have had to figure out how to re-fuel after my races.

This month I’ve had to face the reality of not being able to be in two–or three–places at the same time. I think ALL the events are scheduled for May 21/22, i.e., the weekend of my son’s graduation. I wish I could join in all the fun around the Fit Foodie 5k and the inaugural D.C. Bike Ride, but I will be a few hundred miles away in Pennsylvania. I even will be missing my firm’s partner retreat in California. While it might be possible to catch a red-eye home Friday night and still make it to Baccalaureate Saturday afternoon, I would hate a flight delay or cancellation make me miss such a momentous event.

This week my dilemma was how to fit in a few Orange Theory Fitness classes without throwing off the rest of my schedule. Continue reading
