Wrapping Up A Week Of Business Travel

I’ve had a lot of business travel already this year, and I am just about over it. I try to make the most of my business trips, but it’s still a hassle and exhausting. Monday I left my house at 5:45 am to catch a 7:00 am train to NYC, met with a client until 5:00 pm, grabbed dinner with my colleague, and then did work for other clients in my hotel room until 10:00 pm. It’s no wonder most of my reimbursement receipts are from Starbucks!

Can someone please get me a sign like this?

This week I spent Monday and Tuesday nights in New York City, Wednesday night at home, and Thursday night in Kansas City. I hate packing and unpacking, but it was pretty easy Wednesday when I just had to take out my dirty/worn clothes from New York and pack a new set of clothes for my conference on Friday. Of course, I always pack my workout clothes first! Here’s how I put them to use this week:  Continue reading

What are you doing June 26, July 17, August 6 or August 28? While you check your calendar I will tell you why you should join me on a Farm to Fork Fondo.

I first heard about the Farm To Fork Fondo series from Chrissy. With her encouragement I reached out the organizer and was so excited to work out a sponsorship I didn’t realize the event I had my eye on conflicted with a work conference. Luckily my primary role in that event is planning, not presenting, so instead of sitting in meeting rooms in early August I will be riding through the gorgeous farmlands of the Pennsylvania Dutch Farm To Fork Fondo course with my husband. There are so many reasons you should clear your calendar and join me, but I’ll highlight my top five. Continue reading

Afraid Of What Lies Ahead For Tiger Lilly

I’ve talked about how I am not fearless, and how I think being brave has more to do with facing your fears than not being afraid. I know there are areas of my life that are limited by fear, and I’m struggling with that. It’s usually cycling that instills such a visceral reaction–butterflies in my stomach, a racing heart rate, even tears–but these days there is something else that has me afraid of what lies ahead.

Fitness Is Better With Friends

I used to workout alone, but between getting to know local fitness bloggers, joining Moms Run This Town, and encouraging colleagues at work, I have developed a circle of friends who enjoy being active. Knowing a friend is going to meet me for a dark o’clock run keeps me from hitting the snooze button and makes a long run feel easy as we chat away the miles. Friends have convinced me to try workouts that I didn’t think I’d really enjoy but quickly fell in love with–like indoor cycling and hot yoga. There are so many reasons that fitness is better with friends!

Sometimes business travel interferes with my workouts and my social life, but on my last trip to Chicago I actually got to run with–and run into–some good friends.  Continue reading
