Suffering From Vacation Envy

I don’t always use the badge for the Weekly Wrap Link Up hosted by Holly and Tricia, but this time of year I love everything related to the beach. Too bad I don’t have plans to put my toes in the sand any time soon. On the other hand, I think ALL my clients will be on vacation in July, which is fine, except most are European and will be gone for WEEKS, which is great for them, but they want ALL the work that’s due in July to be done by next week, which would be okay, except none of them told me this until last week. If I get one more email saying “Since I will be out July xx-yy can you please send me that document this week” I will scream. Or cry. Or go to Starbucks …. And then plan my own vacation.

Weekly Wrap

At least I’m not too busy for my morning workouts! This week I did less running than usual, but that’s okay since my next big race isn’t until September. Continue reading

Why I’ve Gone Back To A Jawbone UP Fitness Tracker–My Jawbone Up3 Review

I loved my Garmin fitness trackers. I loved the smart features of my Garmin VivoSmart, and when I was ready for something new, I loved the wrist-based heart rate monitoring of my Garmin VivoSmart HR. But a few weeks ago I decided I was done wearing it around the clock, and relegated it to occasional use for indoor cycling–when I remember to grab it from its charger before I head out the door. When I took it off that evening, I wasn’t sure I was going to replace it, but after only two days of having a “naked” wrist, I was wearing a new Jawbone UP fitness tracker–the UP3.

My first fitness tracker was the first Jawbone UP. Even after I had replaced it with the Garmin Vivosmart, there were a number of reasons I liked the UP better, but I stuck with the Garmin for its “smart” features (phone/text/email notifications) and then doubled down for the wrist-based heart rate monitoring of the VivoSmart HR. So what made me go back?  Continue reading

Still Here And Other Books To Get Lost In

I’ve always been an avid reader. As a kid, I always had my nose in a book, and often would sneak a flashlight into my bed so I could read under the blanket well past my bedtime. I even read a lot during high school and found a group of friends who shared my passion for reading. My son didn’t believe me when I told him that we would stay up all night reading at our slumber parties, but it’s true. I don’t  read as much as I’d like to these days–my eyes are just too darn tired at the end of the day–but I still love to get lost in a good book.
Book Reviews (1)

I always have a hard time selecting a book to read, but I’ve found that Blogging For Books can be a good place to start. Once you are accepted into the program, you can choose a book to review from their current selections, and they will send you an electronic or paper copy. Once you read the book and post your review, you can choose another one. I read several good books through this program last year–you can find all of my book reviews here. Continue reading

Staying Motivated With The June RunChatHunt

Last weekend I ran the last race on my calendar until September (did you read my Lawyers Have Heart 10K recap yet?). I’m just not a fan of summer racing, although I might make a game-day decision to do the PVTC Go Fourth 8K on July 4th–just for the post-race watermelon! To stay motivated as the temperature and humidity rise, I’m participating in the June 2016 edition of RunChatHunt, the photo scavenger hunt sponsored by TheRunChat on Twitter.

June 2016 RunChatHunt

This is the list of items to find and photograph on a run. If you want to join in, please read the #RunChatHunt rules and entry information here. As usual, there are great prizes, including a gift pack from Nuun Hydration, compression socks from ProCompression, RunLites gloves, and a vest from Camelbak! The hunt is on through the end of June, so grab your camera (or your phone!) and go for a RUNchathunt! Continue reading

2016 Lawyers Have Heart 10K Recap

The Lawyers Have Heart 10K is the only 10K on my race calendar year in and year out. I prefer 10 mile races and don’t like racing in the summer, but because I am a lawyer and like to support the American Heart Association, I usually dedicate a Saturday morning in June to this event.

2016 Lawyer Have Heart 10K

Thanks to everyone who donated through my fundraising page–
I earned this great hat by raising over $250!

Although this week’s Friday Five theme is “favorites,” I’m going to give you five reason why the Lawyers Have Heart 10K this is not my favorite race. I’m sure Courtney, Cynthia and Mar won’t mind. 😉 Continue reading
