Fitness Tracker Favorites — My Fitbit Alta Review

My name is Coco, and I’m addicted to fitness trackers. It started with the Jawbone UP. Then I gave the Garmin Vivosmart a try. I was surprised at how much I liked the “smart” features and upgraded to the Vivosmart HR for its wrist-based heart rate monitoring. I loved being able to see all that data, but the Jawbone UP3 caught my eye with its sleek profile. I never was tempted by the popular Fitbit devices because they didn’t have idle alarms, but that changed with the Fitbit Alta–the newest device on my wrist.

Pedaling And Planking

Last weekend I prioritized cycling over running. Who am I? Partly it was was because I wanted to do something fun with my husband over the holiday weekend, but partly it was because I was more excited about cycling than running. Who am I?

Pedaling and Planking
I haven’t completely lost my running mojo. I’ve got two short business trips this week and I’m looking forward to running in Central Park and Chicago. In the meantime, I am having fun pedaling and planking with the #MakeMyPlank challenge that Kim (Running On The Fly) is leading.

Prayers On September 11

Today is the 15th anniversary of September 11th. I can remember the day like it was yesterday, but I know it is fading into history despite the efforts of many to #NeverForget.

Chapel Garden

“Remember Those Whose Ashes Lie In The Chapel Garden”

Over the past 15 years, the disbelief at the unfolding horrors of September 11 has given way to an understanding that we are vulnerable to acts of terrorism and random acts of violence, no matter where we are.

Cycling To Harpers Ferry West Virginia

We headed into Labor Day weekend with no big plans. We thought Hermine was going to bring us rain, but by Friday the forecast called for partly cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, and almost no chance of rain. I wanted to do something “fun” to make the long weekend special, and over dinner Friday night we decided to make a day trip out of cycling to Harpers Ferry in West Virginia.

cycling to harpers ferry
Harpers Ferry is at about mile marker 61 on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath, which we can pick up at mile 0 in Georgetown, but we did not want to spend that long on our bikes! Luckily Bike Washington has a great guide for cycling along the C&O Canal that we used to plan our ride. Continue reading
