Lifeline 100 Century Ride Recap

Last weekend my husband and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. How did we mark such a momentous occasion? By spending 7 hours on our bikes doing the Lifeline 100 Century Ride in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, of course! What could be more romantic??

Lifeline 100 Century Ride Recap
It wasn’t the first time we spent our anniversary cycling. For our 25th, we took the day off work and spent the day riding to Leesburg and back–about 67 miles round trip. Since our anniversary fell on a weekend this year, and since completing a century ride was on my husband’s “bucket list,” the Lifeline 100 Century Ride seemed like a perfect fit.

Alternative Plantar Fasciitis Treatment

Between recovering from my not-quite-a-race last weekend, resting up for our century ride, and focusing on my plantar fasciitis treatment, this week was relatively quiet on the workout front. While I had a break from business travel, work still kept me busy with 12 hour days Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday–but I made it home just in time for the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy! #priorities.

My Frantic Fall Begins

I know fall only started on Friday, but last weekend kicked off my frantic fall schedule. As you know from last week’s recap, I was in Colorado visiting my daughter on Saturday and then headed to San Francisco for a conference that began on Sunday. I got back home late Tuesday night, and ran my first fall race on Sunday!

Work was frantic last week too, but I carved out enough time to get my emerging plantar faciitis evaluated and treated. Since I haven’t been running much this summer, I blame the standing desk I’ve been using at work. I need to find a healthy medium between sitting all day and standing all day.

Getting God’s Message Across

Even if you aren’t a Christian, you probably have heard of the hymn with the lyrics “They will know we are Christians by our love ….” It’s a hymn that’s ingrained in my psyche–I probably learned it in Sunday School and sang it many times at summer camp.

Reading about the origins of this hymn, maybe it always was more aspirational than descriptive. According to hymnary, Peter Scholtes wrote it in 1968, while he was serving as a parish priest at St. Brendan’s on the South Side of Chicago. Still, it saddens me that few people today would associate being Christian with being loving and accepting, let alone “guard[ing] each man’s dignity and sav[ing] each man’s pride.” Continue reading
