Filling My Cup Along The Mount Vernon Trail

I’m not going to lie, last week was rough. My Mom was in the hospital recovering from her hip surgery. I had a lot going on at work and had to push back on clients trying to pile on more so I could preserve my long weekend. None of my kids came home for Thanksgiving. My Mom was still in the hospital over Thanksgiving, so we revised and simplified our plans even further. I accidentally published a half-written version of this post via the WordPress App instead of saving a draft. And so on.

But I am a glass half-full person, and I know I can’t pour from an empty cup (how’s that for mixed metaphors?), so I put on my own oxygen mask and spent some along the Mount Vernon Trail.

November Runfessions

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and didn’t stay out too late chasing early Black Friday deals. For some reason, I bet most of us in this corner of the web prioritized turkey trots over midnight door-busters. I also wonder how many of us will be runfessing how many miles we would have to run to burn off all the stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie? I like math, but not that kind!

If you’re curious too, make sure you waddle over to Marcia’s Healthy Slice for the November Runfessions link up. And every Friday check out the Friday Five link up at Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness.

If you saw my Friday Five post, you know that I hit the big 5-0 last week. If you read my Friday Five post, you know that I am starting my fifty-first trip around the sun feeling loved, lucky, and blessed. It’s not an ignorant bliss, though. There’s a lot going on in this country and around the world that troubles me, but I also see a lot of kindness and generosity that gives me hope.

Taking Up Room

Five Thoughts On Turning 50

Yesterday I celebrated my big 5-0! Actually, I continued the celebration since my husband managed to pull off a surprise party for me last weekend. So much for my post-race veg-out plans. 😉

On Turning 50

Life has been pretty busy lately and I wasn’t sure what I’d say about my birthday until I remembered my first Friday Five post of 2017 set Five Goals On Turning 50. True to form, once I wrote out those goals I never checked back in on them, but I think I managed to achieve them all–especially if I can double count our European vacation as travelling somewhere new for fun and enjoying my children as adults.

2017 Wilson Bridge Half Marathon Recap

This weekend I ran my third half marathon of the year–the 2017 Wilson Bridge Half Marathon. While I still love 10 milers, I am getting used to the half marathon distance–just in time for the “off” season.

2017 Wilson Bridge Half Course Map

Even though I’ve never run this race, the route was familiar–5 miles out and back along the George Washington Parkway, and then 1.5 miles across and back across the Wilson Bridge.
