Halfway through week I was thinking I really should have hibernated, but then I realized the best thing about this week was the weather–how’s that for a change?
Mild morningsmeant lots of Scooby Miles, which always brings me smiles. It was the rest of the week that made me want to crawl into bed and stay there!
My week started off with a dentist appointment on Monday afternoon. It was nice to get out of the office any enjoy the warm sunshine, but not so nice to find out I have a cavity.
On my way home I stopped by a new Orange Theory Fitness studio that’s opening close to my house. It looked nice, but I wasn’t impressed by the manager. Once she realized I wasn’t interested in “upgrading” to a more expensive membership plan, she didn’t want to be bothered. Even when I asked about the locker rooms, she didn’t offer to show me around or even invite me to look around on my own.
Tuesday’s weather was amazing–it got into the 70’s in the afternoon! But instead of being able to get outside for a break, I was stuck at my desk drafting a document a client decided they wanted to file on Friday–against our advice to take more time to think things through. Three hours later I was relatively pleased with how it came together, and sent it off for their review. Imagine my reaction Wednesday morning, when I read their email deciding to take more time to think things through.
Wednesday took another turn for the worse at physical therapy. I was doing a new exercise with a kettlebell, which was going well until I somehow managed to drop it on my big toe.
wrong body part, but you get the picture
I don’t think I broke any little toe bones, but it hurt–and I felt like an idiot.
Thursday was a long day with conference calls at 2, 3, 4, and 5 pm. Friday I had to do all the work I couldn’t do while I was on the phone on Thursday, and ended up spending 12 hours at the office.
By the time I was done, I was DONE!
Weekly Wrap — Scooby Miles
Now you understand why Scooby Miles were the highlight of my week!
Monday: 4.3 Scooby Miles
Monday morning it was still in the 30s, but that felt balmy compared to last week’s frigid weather.
Tuesday : CPY2 at CorePower Yoga
Our peak pose was hurdler’s pose, which I usually can do. Next week we’re going to try to combine that with chin stand which should be interesting!
Wednesday: 4.6 Scooby Miles
With temperatures in the 40s, I ditched CycleBar for more Scooby Miles. It felt great to be outside without being bundled up!
Thursday: 3.3 Scooby Miles
I had time in my schedule for a 6 mile run, but my toe wasn’t having it. I suffered through 3.3 Scooby Miles, and used the rest of the time to do an upper body strength workout.
Friday: Orange Theory Fitness
I wasn’t sure how my sore toe would impact my workout, but I knew I would need some endorphins to get through the day. My toe couldn’t tolerate burpees, but somehow wasn’t bothered by planks.
For the treadmill block, we did three sets of 4 minute pushes “for distance” as preparation for a 12 mile “benchmark” run coming up in a few weeks. I varied my pace from 7.0 mph to 7.5 mph, and bumped it up to 8.0 mph for the last 30 seconds of the last one. That was tough!
Saturday: 8.2 Scooby Miles
Winter was back and my toe was still sore, but I bundled up and popped some naproxen to take Scooby out. It didn’t feel that cold–except for the miles into the wind–but my iPhone did that cold-weather dying thing when I tried to take a post-run picture. I guess 28F is too cold for a device designed in Silicon Valley.
Scooby is always curious about my stretching.
Sunday: Cyclebar
I didn’t plan ahead for this class–and weekend classes fill up–but I put name name on the weighting list and got an email and text message Saturday night that I had gotten in–and would have one of my favorite bikes!
It was my second time taking a class with Natalie and I really like her teaching style. I also think I can get more out of my legs when they are fueled with a full breakfast and coffee!
And that’s a wrap!
I’m joining Holly and Wendy and guest host Michelle for the Weekly Wrap
–you should too!
How do you get over a rough week?
Awesome week, so many fun Scooby miles! He must have been so happy 🙂
Despite all the chaos of your week you sure were active! Sorry about the toe. Ouch! KBs can definitely be dangerous & I don’t think you are an idiot at all (but I know sometimes it can feel that way).
It never got to 70 here, but Monday was so damn beautiful and we were in the car for 3 hours and in my parents apartment. I feel your pain!
Your Bitmoji pics are hilarious! I never think to use any for my blog posts, but I need to! I cannot imagine how bad your toe felt…well, I can imagine, but I’m sure it probably hurt 1,000 times more. One time, I stubbed my pinky toe and it turned a very dark shade of purple (almost black). It wasn’t broken, but it hurt like a SOB for a long time. Thankfully, I wasn’t a runner then, so it didn’t affect my fitness LOL but I hobbled around in flip flops because I could not get my foot into a regular shoe.
Sometimes a bitmoji is worth 1000 words!
What a week! You still managed to get some great workouts in!
Boo on that OTF manager – just rude. And, OMG your poor toe – glad you didn’t break anything!
My iPhone does not like the cold weather at all! It’s crazy because it can go from 100% charge to 20% in the blink of an eye. So when it’s cold, I tuck my SpiBelt into my tights to keep it warm. How else could I take my selfies?
I’m glad you didn’t break your toe! Ouch! I have a lot of big toe pain from my RA, so when it’s bothering me, I have to adjust how I land when I run. Glad you were able to run.
I was surprised my phone thought it was cold. What’s silly is that as soon as I plug it in it’s at 80% again. Oh, with my luck adjusting my gait for my toe will cause another injury ….
Oh man, it sounds like you had quite the week! I also had an off week (and so did a few other people) so I have to wonder if it was something in the air last week, lol.
My iPod loses charge very quickly when it’s super cold out. It’s really annoying when I’m halfway through my run and it just dies!
That’s a bummer about the new OTF 🙁 I’m thinking that location may be looking for a new manager soon. You can’t treat people like that, especially existing customers!
I think that’s why she didn’t care. I already belong so I won’t help her meet her goals for new members. 😛
sounds like you had one of those weeks for sure! Ouch on that kettlebell. I hate it when I hurt my running parts while not running
Hope your toe doesn’t linger
Your Friday at work was my Wednesday. Somehow we always have those days. Shame it sounds like yours could have been avoided if client had been able to shift earlier
Ugh on rude studio m anagers, the worst
Sorry to hear about your toe – hope it calms down soon. This is why I’m scared of kettle bell workouts, even if I do find a class!
I need to get back to spin and this might be the encouragement I need. I will look at class times at least …
The kettlebell incident was just klutziness. I was actually done and set it down on a bench …. that it rolled off of onto my toe.
Noooooo!
Thank heavens for Scooby miles. The rest of your week sounds pretty challenging. What is it about people who insist on selling “more” and shoot themselves in the foot by doing so? We went through that with my daughter’s SAT test prep. A couple of places wanted to sell us way more than we knew she needed and therefore ended up getting zero business. Ouchie on the toe! Hope it’s feeling better!
The upsell is so annoying! And it’s everywhere these days.
Sounds like a tough work week 🙁 And I hope the toe is back to normal soon!
Thanks. It probably would get better faster if I let it rest more. :-/
Sorry about your toe. Ouch, that sounds painful! Be careful taking NSAIDs before running, they can impair kidney function. Take Tylenol before, NSAID after is what I’ve always been told.
Scooby is one lucky dog!
Thanks. I think both can be problematic if you take them too frequently or before a really hard run, but I’ll be cautious!
whoah what a week! holy rudeness, Batman! that manager at OTF would have pissed me right off!! and the client who decided anyway to think about things longer. And all those conference calls!!! luckily you had Scooby to get you out and about! How’s your toe now?
I usually get over a rough week with a gin and tonic (or two 😉 ). If I’m having one, then you know it’s been rougher than usual!
Hah! I sure felt like I needed a drink, but really I needed a good night’s sleep!
Oh my goodness! I hope your toe is okay. That sounds so painful!
