Thawing Out And Checking Out

We finally had enough days above freezing and heavy rain to wash away most of the snowcrete—just in time for the next winter storm warning. 😱 It was nice to be able to get outside with Scooby and I needed that fresh air to balance the long hours at my desk. It took a few late nights, but I finished my big projects so I can truly check out on my vacation next week.

Can you tell my avatar is wearing a North Face jacket? I don’t own one in IRL, but I will be wearing my ski jacket next week when I hit the slopes with my son.

Thawing Out

Work stress was running high and manifested in tension and tightness in my back. It felt good to move, but I dialed back the intensity.

Sunday I did a little bit of everything, including Robin’s 45 min hip hop ride. It was a music-focused class that was challenging enough, but not extreme.

Monday (President’s Day) the sidewalks were finally clear enough for a run with Scooby! You can still see a mound of snowcrete in our yard, but its days were numbered.

Tuesday I remembered the hard way that I can’t hit the snooze button and have time for a full workout after walking Scooby. I had been paring a 20 min ride with the 30 min strength for skiers classes, but didn’t have enough time. Marcel’s 10 min hike was a great compromise.

Wednesday my back was flaring so I skipped my planned upper body strength workout and had fun in Hannah F’s ride—I think 90s hip hop is my favorite.

Thursday I dusted off my headlamp and took Scooby out for a run before work. It was nice to enjoy a bit a day light during the last mile.

Friday I opted for Joslyn’s body weight workout and Sam Yo’s annual Lunar New Year (horoscope) ride. Joslyn’s class had an excellent strength for runners focus, with hip bridges, side planks, single leg deadlifts, squats, and forward lunges.

Saturday I was actually overdressed for my run and ended up taking my gloves off mid-way. The sunshine and blue skies were quite a treat.

I guess I wore the same top Monday and Saturday—
I promise it was washed and put away in between!

Checking Out

Usually three days of skiing is enough for us, so we booked our ski trip from Monday to Friday, with Monday and Friday being travel days. By Thursday even the reliable weather sources were calling for major snow Sunday into Monday. I wasn’t worried about conditions here, but our route up 95N aligned with the snow accumulation map, so we decided to head up Sunday—hopefully ahead of most of the snow.

I didn’t think we’d have an issue adding Sunday night to our reservation, but about fell out of my chair when the CSR said that would cost an additional $3000 because our original reservation was “non-changeable” and the added day was only a few days away. 🤯 Thankfully after I repeatedly asked to speak to someone else she was able to “find” a rate that didn’t make me choke. It was much easier on my wallet to extend my ski rental and add another lift ticket. 😉 🎿

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Has a last minute change of plans forced you to pay a crazy hotel rate?

Sounds like you will have some great skiing conditions! Hope you enjoy your trip and time away from work. Have so much fun

Being able to get back outside with Scooby after all that snowcrete must have felt like freedom! Fresh air really is the best stress reset.
That hotel upcharge! Good on you for pushing back and not accepting the first answer. Now go enjoy that ski trip and properly check out. You earned it, Coco!

  3. I’m glad your road/sidewalk conditions are better! Although we didn’t have any snowcrete, things were sketchy in my ‘hood both yesterday and today. It’s all gonna be melted in a couple days, so I’m not gonna stress about it…though I am craving a good run since it’s been several days since my last outing in the running shoes (last Wednesday). I hope all goes well on your trip!

Ooh, you must be on your way to your $3000 hotel right now! Jk- glad you got that straightened out. I hope you have a great ski trip- sounds like you need a break! Have fun, and I hope the break from work eases up the back issue.

      Yes, we made it!
I mean, I get demand pricing, but there can’t be that much demand for just a Sunday night. Plus a lot of people checked out early to be the snow storm home.

How lovely for you to run on clear roads again!!
I always wear the same grey tank tops and somewhat the same leggings for the gym, and have thought many times that perhaps I should let my coach know that I actually have four sets of this outfit, just in case, lol!
The hotel price, ugh!!!!! Well done you for not just accepting it (but seriously, who would)! Enjoy your skiing!

  6. Wendy says:

Well, that is just robbery, plain and simple. It’s amazing how businesses think they can charge like that. As if they thought you’d pay that. SMH. I hope the rest of your trip is so much fun!

  7. Debbie says:

I hope you have a wonderful time skiing during your well-earned vacation from work, Coco! I’m glad you were able to resolve the pricing issue with adding last night to your lodging. Yay for an extra day of skiing!

  8. Jen says:

I hope you had the most wonderful time on your vacation.

Airlines are ridiculous. What other company can provide such erratic pricing and non existent customer service? Drives me nuts! I’m so glad they were able to work with you!
