Looking For Spring In Chicago

This week I had a quick trip to Chicago with just enough time to have dinner with Erica and run along the Lakefront Trail before a full day of work meetings and a looong work dinner. My midday flight was 1/2 empty, so I slid over to the window seat and enjoyed the views of the city before we landed at O’Hare.

Looking For Spring In Chicago

It was in the 60s in D.C., but the Weather Channel app told me it was colder in Chicago, so I stuffed my coat into my carry-on. Erica and I had a pleasant walk to dinner, but a sudden gust of wind made me laugh as we took this photo.

Wednesday morning wasn’t looking much like spring. It was in the upper 30s with a “feels like” in the low 30 when I headed out for my run. I debated weather to wear my vest over my long-sleeved top, but am glad I did because it was a bit breezy around the planetarium.

That’s a wall of clouds in the distance.

It was a brisk but beautiful morning,
and felt so much better than my last run in the rain.

I decided to run all the way past the planetarium and ended up logging 7.26 miles on my Garmin. Catrina asked me why I don’t trust Garmin data in Chicago, so I snapped a screenshot of how it “tracked” me along the Riverwalk.

I stayed on the south side of the river
even if my Garmin didn’t!

Weekly Wrap

Spring definitely was in the air in D.C.—along with a lot of pollen. Luckily my symptoms maxed out at occasional sneezing rather than persistent congestion and misery.

Sunday: Core + 6.6 Scooby Miles
It was the kind of spring weather that called for shorts but still needed long sleeves. We saw a few other dogs enjoying the warmer weather, but Scooby wasn’t phased.

Monday: Core + Bodyweight Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
I used a resistance band for some of the moves of Andy’s bodyweight class and turned it into a great pre-hab class. Another one worthy of bookmarking!

Tuesday: Core + SFR + 3.5 Tread Miles
I had a hearing at the Patent Office before my flight to Chicago, and needed some endorphins to get through the day. Andy’s run was challenging enough to do the trick!

Wednesday: Core + 7.25(?) miles
I did a Peloton core workout in my room before heading out for a run. I loved how the sunrise was shining on these buildings—and that blue sky!

Thursday: 15 min Bodyweight Class
I had an early flight home, but got up early enough to do a 15 min bodyweight class in my hotel room before jumping in the shower and heading to O’Hare.

Friday: UB Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
I knew traffic would be light on Good Friday, so I enjoyed a long stack of workouts before heading into work. I usually take a Lanebreak class as a cool down, but thought I might need a warm-up before Ben’s Rolling Hills class.

Saturday:  7.3 miles
Scooby’s been sneezy this week, so I didn’t think taking him for a long run would be a good idea. I took him for a walk, and then headed out for a solo run.

With the Lawyers Have Heart 10K four weeks away, I wanted to up my distance. I chose a 75 min Peloton run with Matt Wilpers to keep me going.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up, and to each of you for stopping by.

Oh my goodness, that Garmin route is all over the place!! It must be all the tall buildings around you. Great run all the same! In fact, you logged two lengthy runs this week. Looks like you have finally got rid of all the niggles!

All the best with your training for the upcoming 10K!

I’ll have to share mine from the Shamrock Shuffle I ran last month. One of my miles was 8:15 and the next was 10:30. LOL!!!!

How fun to meet up with Erica while in Chicago! I remember those crazy Garmin maps from when I’d run while visiting our son and d-i-l when they live there.

Happy Easter to you and your family!

I met up with Cari and you met up with Erica – hooray for blogger meet ups.

Still cold here but it was 80 yesterday so maybe we’ll see flowers soon.

glad to see your running is going so well. 7 miles and so you’re ready for 6.2, right?

We did have a gorgeous week here for outdoor activities but the pollen is just insane. I’ve cleaned my porch twice and can’t get ahead of it. Always fun to meet up with Erika . Yes, the weather in Chicago is all over the place but we were too this week

Happy Easter, Coco! Looks like you’re having some lovely weather (other than the pollen). And yep, that looks about right for Chicago at this time of year.
I’m glad your running is going so well! You’re going to kill that 10k. And- I love all the flowers in your photos.

I love that approach into OHare–that view NEVER gets old. Yep, I love my city. Glad you got to meet up with Erica. Hopefully we can meet up again!

  7. Lots of nice workouts this week! It definitely felt like spring here, but our spring is usually kind of iffy with the wind and erratic temps. We haven’t had any rain until this morning…I’m glad I got our for a walk before church (and glad I took my umbrella with me to church, LOL).
