We buy strawberries at the grocery store year round, but there’s nothing like fresh-picked berries. Similar to homegrown tomatoes, the ones you get at the store just don’t compare.
And a strawberry shake to refuel!
Strawberry Delight
I’ve been wanting to go strawberry picking for the past few years, but never got my ish together to actually do it. The local season here is pretty short—about 4 weeks—which doesn’t leave many weekends ripe for picking. 😆 I also wasn’t sure where to go. The farm I’d been to before closed years ago (before the pandemic). A farm that sells at local farmers markets also has pick-your-own, but I never ventured down their dirt road until yesterday.
Even though it’s only about 40 min away, we spent more time driving there and back than we did picking! It’s a bit early in the season, but we were still able to pick 10 lbs before we got tired of looking for ripe clusters.
We stopped at my Mom’s on the way home to give her some, and I’ve already sliced up a few cups for eating and made a batch of strawberry muffins.
Weekly Wrap
I felt good at the start of the week but during my run on Saturday my legs told me they were ready for a break!
Sunday: Core + 7 Scooby Miles
I thought my legs would be tired after riding 50 miles Saturday for my second Pelofondo, but this was one of those precious runs when everything felt good. I started out thinking I’d do 3-4 miles, but ended up going for 7!
Monday: 20 min LB/Core + 10 min ALW + 20 min Peloton Ride
I started Ben’s new Strength for Cyclists program which has three days of classes. I paired it with an arms + light weights class and 20 min ride. The program includes three different 10 minute stretch classes that I had to do to earn the program badge.
Tuesday: 30 min FB Strength + 3.5 min Tread Miles
I didn’t want to interfere with Ben’s program, but it’s hard to resist a new class from Jess Sims. I checked the workout plan and decided it wouldn’t be too intense if I used moderate weights. I was surprised to see Andy with a “country” run and apparently he was too! He apologized for not knowing any of the songs — I think he was subbing for Selena.
Wednesday: 20 min FB + 5 min Core +30 min Peloton Rides
I woke up early, so I had time to tack on a 5 min core class after day two of the strength program, and a 10 min Lanebreak ride after Hannah’s 20 min climb, and still was able to do the 10 min stretch before I had to get ready to go to work.
Thursday: Core + 4.6 Scooby Miles
I celebrated the first day of May with a weekday morning run—yay for early sunrises!
Friday: 30 min FB Strength + 30 min PZ Ride
The last strength class of the program is 30 min and has blocks focused on lower body, upper body, and core. After that, I took a tough PowerZone ride with Hannah.
Saturday: 6.08 Scooby Miles
It was in the upper 60s, so I dug out a tank top for the first time this year. There was a nice breeze, but my legs were feeling the week’s workouts and telling me they needed a break.
Neither of us wanted to round up to 10K
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up throughout the year, and to each of you for stopping by.
Do you have a favorite strawberry recipe I should try?
Those strawberries look amazing and I’m sure taste much better than the ones I just purchased at Costco. 😉 My mom and I used to go out hunting for wild strawberries on the farm and they were even sweeter (much smaller, though) than the ones she grew in her garden.
LOL, I love that Scooby gives you input on rounding up the mileage. 🙂
Sounds like you had a great week- and I hope you listened to your legs and took a day off today!
Oh yum, those strawberries! I don’t even eat strawberries from the store anymore because they just aren’t that good. I’ll bet the ones you picked are delicious! 10 pounds is a lot of strawberries- I want to see what else you make with them.
Today it’s been jam!
I have not made out to pick strawberries since the kids were little. They do look yummy! Looks like a good week all around. It got so hot!
I need a strawberry muffin right now! Funny how I used to hate strawberry-picking as a kid – now it sounds like the perfect day out.
Also, I couldn’t resist converting your 6.08 miles – so close to a 10K with Scooby!
Those strawberries are gorgeous looking! It is not been warm enough or Berry season yet but I hope to get out and pick something soon! We typically don’t pick berries but I would love to! We almost always pick apples. We have raspberry bushes in our yard but last year they didn’t produce much. I need to learn how to take better care of plants! Nice job with your running with scooby! I’m amazed he can go so far.
Oh, those strawberries! Now I’m thinking I need to make a trip to the store. Your muffins look delish. Ben’s Strength for Cyclists program sounds intriguing…gonna check that out!
Strawberry picking already?! We won’t be able to go until mid June around here. Maybe. It’s taking so long to warm up! You’re making me anxious to get some fresh strawberries!
I just love farm fresh strawberries drizzled with half and half or whipping cream. Wimbledon style lol. I’m weird about cooked fruit.
I think we are into blueberry season now. But I haven’t been home and when I do get a break, the last thing I want to do is drive an hour to pick fruit. I love it, but it just isn’t fun right now.
Hi, Scooby!
