Well I got my big work project wrapped up, and now I’m literally chillin’ in Chicago between meetings. 🥶
Made it to the lakefront just in time to catch the last bit of sunrise.
Chillin’ In Chicago
It seems weird to be relaxed on a business trip—and I do have big meetings to prepare for—but for now I’m enjoying the calm between the storms. By the time I wrapped up my part of the big project, I was done whether or not it was. There’s only so much midnight oil this girl can burn. But now that I’ve caught up on my sleep, I am feeling back to myself again and trying to make the most of my time in the Windy City!
I am enjoying the nice “river view” from my hotel window.
And braving chilly conditions for the 2 block walk to Starbucks!
Weekly Run Down
I was running on fumes early in the week, but still felt better starting my day with a walk and a workout. This time I’m in Chicago long enough to use the hotel gym Pelotons and run along the Lakefront Trail
Sunday: 1 mile Scooby Walk + 10 min Core
I had the best of intentions to workout after church, but after my grocery store run was too stressed about that work project and spent some time on that instead.
Monday: 20 min FB Strength + 3.5 Tread Miles
Monday I was ready to hit it hard with a long stack of short workouts—including another tread run in my new running shoes—so far, so good.
Tuesday: Core + 20 min UB Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride
Tuesday I stacked three short strength workouts and then hopped on my bike for a 20 min ride with Hannah. I realized halfway into the first song that I had just taken the same class last week—at least it was a good one!
Wednesday: Core + 10 min LB Strength + 3.5 Tread Miles
Wednesday was a stressful day, but it started out well. Later I learned when I checked in for my flight that my Global Entry status had expired (so I temporarily lost TSA precheck status) and then in my rush to get home to do laundry, pack, and finish that project, I left my laptop at the office. 😫 Luckily I was able to reach a colleague who was still there and lives sort of close to me. I would have picked it up from his house, but was kind enough bring it to mine.
Thursday: 20 min Walk + 10 min Walk
Without TSA precheck I wanted to get to the airport early, so I only walked Scooby before heading out. I was afraid I’d forget to take another Peloton class to keep up my 30 min streak, so I listened to a 10 min meditation while waiting at the gate. I had picked out a 10 min walk for my trek at O’Hare, and did remember to listen to that while heading from Gate C30 to the Uber pickup zone—which takes about 10 min. (As it turned out there were ZERO people in line in the “regular” TSA lane and my Global Entry status renewal has been approved 😀).
Friday: 10 min Core + 30 min Intervals + Arms + 10 min Lanebreak
I was able to sleep until 6 am and had packed my shoes for the hotel gym Pelotons. I did a core workout in my room, and then chose a 30 min Intervals + Arms class and a 10 min Lanebreak class.
Yes, I packed my mini fan too!
Saturday: Standing Core + 5.75 Miles Miles
It was in the low 20s, but I had packed my cold weather running gear—including my new Athleta top and tights. I decided to run based on time to a 60 min Peloton class. My Garmin says I covered 5.75 miles, but who knows.
I didn’t take too many pictures because sometime using my iPhone camera when it’s really cold crashes my phone, but I was glad I noticed this installation on D-Day.
My chill time in Chicago will continue today when I finally get to meet Wendy!
What a chaotic Wednesday/Thursday as you prepared for your trip; you deserve some down time. It sounds brutally cold in Chicago. I hope you and Wendy have a great run along the Lakefront and time for coffee afterwards!
It got much nicer on Sunday and I’ll be on my way home as the next icy front moves in!
While it’s not much fun spending a weekend alone in a hotel, there are some advantages, like enforced down-time! And getting to explore Chicago and see Wendy! Yay!
I’m glad you could wrap up the big project – more time for the bake-a-thon coming up!
I’m so happy we finally got to meet AND run together. Thanks for indulging me on my need for so many photos. It was a great run, beautiful weather and all. Let’s do this again!
Thanks for coming downtown — it was so great to finally connect IRL.
So glad that you finally got to meet up and run with Wendy. Enjoy the rest of your time in Chicago
Sounds like a busy, but great, time was had in the Windy City! It’s much colder there than in Iowa, and probably much colder than what you left behind…good thing you came prepared with all the cozy layers 😉
I did have to get a larger carry-on to fit all the weather options!
Ugh, sounds like a stressful time for you! Good to hear you’ve had some good relaxing days too. How nice that you’ve been meeting, and running with, Wendy!
Ugh sorry it is so stressful right now. I have started doing standing ab workout too– I find them easier on my back and a fun change of pace!
So if I remember correctly, you had the weekend off and then more meetings tomorrow? After such a chaotic week you needed some down time! I can’t wait to hear all about the meetup with Wendy. And… I’m pretty sure it’s gotten a little warmer there by now! Hopefully your next couple of days will be comfortable.
No meetings over the weekend, but I had some work to get done, which I did more of on Saturday than Sunday. 🙂
It was balmy on Sunday compared to Saturday.
Which Athleta tights did you get? I do love my Altitude tights. The shiny buildings in Chicago are so pretty. I’m glad you had a bit of downtime. And so great your coworker brought your laptop over. I would have freaked out!
