Hello Humidity, Goodbye June

The last week of June brought August weather to D.C. with 80-90% humidity in the mornings and temperatures close to 100F some afternoons. Still, I was happy to be able to get outside and run, because I also had to spend too many hours at my desk,

Scooby’s tongue says it all

Hello Humidity, Goodbye June

Our weather during this last week of June wasn’t all bad, but I just happened to decide to run on the most humid mornings. I runfessed that work was crushing this week, so I streamlined my workouts but still fit in my morning me time. I continue to do minimal lower body strength workouts, getting by with 10 min classes I take as pre-run warm-ups.

Sunday: 30 min FB Strength + 35 min Peloton Ride
I finally got around to taking Hannah F’s Defected Records ride. I would not have chosen this class based on the playlist, but I knew Hannah would lead a great class and she did. Her cues aligned well with the music, and the class flew by.

Monday: Core + LB Strength + 3.5 Tread Miles
As I runfessed, I started my busy week by oversleeping because I forgot to turn my alarm back on after my trip to NYC last week. While walking Scooby I decided to just work from home so I could still get my workout in. I ended up working until after 9 pm, so I’m glad I took that time for myself.

Tuesday: 30 min UB Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride
I did not oversleep today! After an almost-chilly walk with Scooby (in the 60s!) I braved JJ’s upper body “push” workout and jammed out to Camila’s pop punk ride.

Wednesday: 20 min LB + 3.5 Tread Miles
I expected a warm morning, so planned a treadmill run. Now that my hamstring is stronger, I am enjoying being able to follow along with the cuing on HIIT classes. I’m not sprinting, but I’m playing with different paces.

I did not love Hannah C’s new barre class,
but know I can’t remember why not.

Thursday: Core + 3.4 Scooby Miles + 10 min ALW
Why did I think it would be nice out again? The temperature was in the low 70s, but as I learned after my run, the humidity was at 89%. 🥵

Friday: Core + Upper Body + 20 min Peloton Ride
Was it cooler this morning? Yes. Was I running? No. It was time to do the “pull” day of JJ’s split. I love this one even though the single-leg hammer curls are so challenging. Hopped on my bike for Camilla’s Hip Hop ride and marveled how she managed to teach such an explicit playlist with her mother-in-law in the class. 🤭

Saturday: 4.4 Scooby Miles
It was so humid I felt a few sprinkles when I started running, and thought it was going to rain, but the water just hung in the air. I shared my post-run Scooby selfie above, so here I’ll share the class I ran to—definitely a throw-back to my 80s mix tapes—The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode ….

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Do you have any plans for the 4th of July?

  1. I did not love Hannah’s new barre either -I think it lacked the variety of some of her others and the glute moves I hate/like. this week was really challenging for outdoor activities! I slept in a lot and chose indoor and swimming. I am traveling on the 4th which will be different but turn out good

Ha, I love that Scooby picture!!! I’m so glad your hamstring is feeling better! I don’t want to jinx anything, but it seems like that issue is behind you- phew.
No big plans for the 4th- I’m just glad to have an extra day off. We’ll probably make some sort of special dinner- vegan burgers or hot dogs. And I’ll have a beer- yes, I really know how to party!

  3. Catrina says:

Working until 9pm is no joke! That combined with early mornings must be very tiring.
At least this week you will hopefully get the 4 July off. I hope you get to sleep in a bit!

  4. Susanne says:

Sounds like some good workouts there and I’m so glad you seem to be doing well with your hamstring.
My inlaws (from Sweden) are actually going to the US for the 4th of July, they recently got to know relatives near Boston. I can’t wait to hear how they’ve been doing.

  5. Melissa says:

Hehe, I love that Scooby picture. That tongue! Hopefully, he (and you) are staying cool. Sorry it’s been so busy – hope you can take a day off this week with the fourth of July holiday? nice job getting it all in anyway!

  6. Wendy says:

I feel you on being bombarded at work. The baby boom continues for us, and we have to squeeze patients in so that everyone gets seen. Glad I work part-time! I hope things calm down for you.

I work all week except July 4. We’re going to my sister’s house for a BBQ.

  7. JJ’s push class is the most challenging of all of them, IMO. I did one week, with the intention of repeating it another week or two, but wimped out and did two of Callie’s last week instead. I had done the program a few months ago, and dutifully repeated it for three weeks, though. My 4th of July will be very different this year…walking in a parade with my running club, handing out American flags. It will be weird to not be doing a race, but I’m looking forward to this new gig in my new place 😉

  8. Darlene Cardillo says:

Work has been busy here too. And my boss is on vacation this week so double duty. Oy.

Saturday the rained stopped but I wish it hadn’t.

Race on the 4th. For fun and mimosas.

  9. Cari says:

I had the opposite alarm “problem”. I forgot to turn it off yesterday and was awake way earlier than necessary on what could have been a lazy Sunday. Glad hamstring is alloweing you to play with the paces. Boo on our weather

  10. Jenn says:

Scooby is the best! He’s so photogenic!

No plans for the 4th, really. We’ll do a little themed dinner at home. Maybe go to the beach early. But other than that? Meh.

  11. Shathiso says:

It feels surreal to read how hot and humid it is in your part of the world! But even if it gets really hot in summer here, it’s rarely humid so I can only imagine what you guys are struggling with. I barely survive a day or two of humidity when I travel to humid places. Well done for getting all the workouts you could. And wise to keep most of them indoors!
