Runfessing With Gratitude

It’s the last Friday of the month–the day we gather at Marcia’s runfessional and cleanse our souls soles before we head into the next month—which in this case will be the last month of 2022! It’s also Black Friday, but before I do any shopping I’m runfessing with gratitude.

First, I want to thank Marcia for hosting the runfessions link-up. While most confessions are kept confidential, it’s fun to see what others have to runfess!

Runfessing With Gratitude

I runfess with gratitude that I am running enough to have runfessions to share. I runfess I made the same runfession in last year’s Black Friday runfessions post, but at least I’ve mostly been dealing with different issues this year?

I runfess that while my hip issue is getting better, it does not respond well to speed work on the tread. So why I am still tempted to do it?

runfess that almost as soon as I nudged my “long run” mileage past 6 miles, I signed up for the Jingle All The Way 15K on December 11. I runfess I sort of did it to carve out some “me” time from work—I have a meeting at my office that (Sunday) afternoon. Somehow running a race first makes it better. 🤣 I plan to go straight from the race to my office, shower at my office gym, and refuel at Starbucks.

I runfess that I have been doing speedwork to target a completely unrealistic and unjustified pace. I have been lecturing myself to just let go and be grateful I can run 15K at any pace.

Speaking of which, I runfess I was worrying that I wouldn’t be able to fit it a 10 mile long run rbefore the race, but releived when I remembered a 15K is “only” 9.3 miles. I covered almost that distance last weekend.

I runfess I have been watching the LOL Cody rides while I run on my treadmill. The rides are filmed like a late night talk show, with Cody telling jokes and interviewing two guests—usually a Peloton instructor and a celebrity. There’s a lot of silliness and shenanigans.

The rides are coached as steady state cardio, with few cadence or resistance changes. I don’t know if I could stand a class like that on my bike, but find the classes to be good entertainment for a treadmill run.

Even runfessing wouldn’t save me if I didn’t tell you how grateful I am for all the fantastic friends I have made through running—the ones I’ve run with in real life and the ones who inspire.

Thanks to Cari for organizing and creating this collage!

I’m also thankful for the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida but I runfess I often don’t follow the “five” format.  😉

Deborah and I will be hosting the December Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday, December 2nd, and keep the coffee brewing.

Do you have any grateful runfessions?

  1. The running friends near and far just might be the best part of running! I am bummed to miss the jingle all the way this year. I will have to manage lounging on the beach in Aruba. Maybe I can coax you back to Cherry Blossom this year?

  2. Michelle says:

That’s ok I don’t often follow the five format either – all posts are welcome 😉

I’m glad your hip is feeling better – speedwork and my hip flexor are not on speaking terms! And, how in the world do you have a meeting on a Sunday afternoon?!? I hope your race goes well!

  3. oooh, I like the graphic for the Jingle All The Way race! Two of my kids want handmade “ugly sweaters” with their respective colleges’ colors…I might have to borrow some of the pattern from the graphic, LOL. I’ve done all three of Cody’s LOL’s thus far. He is SO funny! I’ve done them on the bike, but have improvised my own intervals with speed and resistance.

  4. Catrina says:

Ha, yes, you’re definitely doing the long runs for that 15k!
Nice that you signed up despite the speed-work resisting hip. Even if you won’t PR, you will feel great at that Sunday afternoon work meeting!

  5. Darlene S Cardillo says:

I runfess that I don’t do speedwork so I have no right to complain about my slow pace.

I think’s a great idea to to a race and then go to work!!!

I have a 15k in 2 weeks so I am running 8 miles this weekend… so trained, right?

Glad to hear you are in less pain. Can’t wait to hear how the race goes.

  6. Marcia says:

I runfess that I listened to the LOL Cody runs while I was outside running. I do think a talk show format while running is genius! Love your plan to do the 15k before your work meeting!

  7. Jenny says:

Yes, I think if I just allowed myself to run slow AF for the rest of my life, all my issues would be resolved. But I don’t want to! I want to do speedwork and actually RACE a race- is that too much to ask? Sigh.
Anyway, you and I think alike. If I have to work on Sunday, I want to run a race first and then go to Starbucks. That doesn’t sound bad at all!
