This week I had a quick trip to Dallas for a meeting. It was so quick, I checked in for my flight home before I could check into my hotel. It was good timing for me though, because I was able to reach my Peloton 20K minute goal taking a Peloton ride on a Peloton bike in the hotel gym.
With my fav instructor Hannah Frankson of course!
Reaching My Peloton 20K Goal
When I was planning my workouts the night before, I saw I was about 45 minutes away from earning that 20K badge. I did it without using the “Just Workout” feature, so it means I listened to 20,000 minutes of classes, but a fair number were walking classes I took while walking Scooby—where he set the pace and my neighborhood set the incline.
No Pelotons in this photo from the hotel website.
I was staying at a new-to-me hotel, and didn’t know they had Peloton bikes. I started my workout with a 15 min walking class on the treadmill, and then headed over to the strength corner to do a 10 min core class and 20 min strength class. That was all I had planned on, but I still had time for a short ride, so I headed over to the bikes. I realized I couldn’t synch my earbuds to the bike because I’d left the case in my room, and I didn’t see any “disposable” headphones that some hotel gyms have. I decided to see if I could play the same class on my iPhone without getting logged off from the bike, and it worked!
Peloton is beta-testing a new feature that lets you see other “friends” working out—you usually only can see people in your same class. I randomly caught a glimpse of Kim when I was selecting a post-run stretch class.
Weekly Wrap
I don’t have much else to say about this week’s workouts.
I did a third week of Robin’s 3-Day Split strength program, subbing the same class for the leg day I did last week.
I did this class in the hotel gym. They randomly had one rubber-coated 15 lb weight, so I used that for the hamstring curls instead of the 10 lb weight I would have used at home. (I have 15 lbs weights at home, but they are bare metal and not comfortable to hold behold my knee.)
Tuesday and Thursday I did 45 min treadmill workouts, following the plan from Matt Wilpers program. Next week gets hard. I might only do one of the prescribed workouts to keep my hip flexor from getting too angry.
I got home late Friday night (my flight was delayed 2 hours), but still got out the door pretty early Saturday morning for a fabulous fall run with Scooby.
I’m nudging my mileage up—we’ll see what my hip flexor says.
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
Have you ever been pleasantly surprised by a hotel gym?
Wow congrats on 20,000 minutes! That’s dedication!
The hotel we are staying at in Santa Barbara has a nice gym but no Peloton. I’m not one to work out in the gym but the view of the Pacific Ocean from the treadmill is pretty nice!
It woldn’t be my first choice on vacation, but a nice hotel gym is a good way to start a day out of town for work. 😉
Congratulations! That’s a big milestone! I had to laugh a little that you saw Kim on Peloton- yes, of course you did! Judging by how many classes she takes, she’s probably the most seen person on there.
Glad your hip flexor is feeling good! You got in some good runs, and I’m sure Scooby was happy to have you home again.
LOL, that’s so true about Kim.
Huge congrats on the Peloton 20K minute milestone. Amazing dedication!!! I’m accruing a lot of Pelo walks and rides due to a couple of favorite classes I keep cuing up for my walks and runs (with AWESOME soundtracks). Am I poser? Ha!
Congrats on meeting your Peloton 20K goal. Also, awesome job on getting an early start on Saturday’s run despite flight delays Friday evening.
It’s been ages since I’ve been in a hotel gym — or flew anywhere either! I’m not actually sure I see that changing anytime soon but you never know.
20k minutes is quite the accomplishment! Congrats!
Hope the hip flexor cooperates.
You find such great hikes on your trips!
Nice job on the 20K! I am way behind you as I don’t do any of the runs or walks on Peloton. I am hoping to make it to 15K this year. I may go back and do Robin’s split classes again I remember liking those
The daily walks add up quickly!
I’ve liked the workouts, but in my 4th week I’m ready to switch things up again.
Congrats. 20k? Wow. Lucky you with the hotel gym. I haven’t used one in a while. I almost did in Rochester but opted to get wet. Lol.
Very cool to catch Kim working out.
Congrats on that huge milestone!
I hope your hip flexor continues to cooperate – we all need to break this curse!
Thanks for the explanation on the milestone – I didn’t know what that meant. And dang, that’s huge!! Good for you! I do hope the hip flexor agrees with the plan of increased mileage. I think if it’s done gradually it should cooperate, right? Let’s say Yes!!
I know I’m walking a dangerous tightrope and really don’t want to push it over the edge!
Congrats on hitting 20K – and on a Peloton bike in a hotel gym, that’s awesome! I wonder if Peloton will continue to toll out more of their bikes in hotel gyms. Definitely a good way to cater to existing customers and maybe get a few new ones!
You know that reggaeton ride with Denis was good – any ride with him is good, especially when he throws in a few dance moves, lol.
This was a huge hotel gym — I think it’s one that community members can join, so maybe that’s why it was so nice.
I’ll have to try that ride now!
I just got out my calculator to check how much 20’000 hours are in days…. 14 days of non-stop Peloton classes! Awesome, Coco!
I’ve never seen such a huge hotel gym. The only time I was pleasantly surprised was on a safari in the middle of nowhere in South Africa. It was a Virgin / Richard Branson Safari Lodge. Surprisingly, it had a tiny gym to do workouts. I was so happy to get onto that treadmill!
Congrats 0n 20K! That is amazing. How fun to see Kim on Pelo. Haha!
That’s pretty cool the hotel had all Peloton bikes. The most I’ve seen are 3 or so. All the best as your ramp up your miles!
Sounds like you made the most of a whirlwind trip!
The Hard Rock in Daytona Beach has a kick-a$$ gym. It’s a small boutique-type hotel, but the fitness center was amazing.
