Well, it was fun while it lasted, but my streak of pain-free running came to a sudden end this week. When it first happened I thought it came out of nowhere, but the more I think about it, maybe I had some warning.
Google “the bean” when you are in Chicago,
and it will give you directions to Cloud Gate.
Fun While It Lasted
Truth be told, the week before Lawyers Have Heart I tripped over Scooby’s running leash and lightly sprained a different part of my right foot than I had hurt before. (This time it was more on the top.) It was something I could shake off in the moment, but ached once in a while in the following days. With a hard effort in my 5K on Saturday and a 7-ish mile run in Chicago on Sunday, maybe it’s no surprise my foot got angry with me.
In the moment, though, it came out of nowhere. I was halfway through my run with Scooby on Wednesday when it started to hurt—a sharp pain that seemed to emanate from my inside right ankle bone and radiate up from there. By the end of the day, it hurt to walk. As with my other recent foot injuries there’s no swelling, I have full mobility, and I can stand without pain, so I’m confident nothing is fractured. Still, it’s frustrating to be sidelined from running again.
Weekly Run Down
Between starting my week in Chicago and ending my week injured, my workout schedule was mixed up every which way. My foot hurt so much, I didn’t even walk Scooby Thursday or Friday. 😩
Monday: 10 min Core + 4 mile walk
My BRF from work was in Chicago too—but with broken toes so we went for a walk instead of a run. She had not been to Cloud Gate before, so I took her there—taking the long way from our hotel along the Riverwalk to the Lakefront path, through Maggie Daley Park and Millennium Park to Cloud Gate, and back again.
I promise this is a different photo from the one I shared last week
Tuesday: 30 min FB Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
After my back-to-back trips to Chicago, I was glad to be home and even glad to be back on my bike. I took Leanne’s first live ride—it had a pop playlist and fun vibe.
Wednesday: Core + 10 min Bodyweight + 3,75 mi Run + 10 min Arms (light weights)
That fateful run ….
Sweat in my eyes!
Thursday: Core + 20 min FB Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
I figured Cody Rigsby’s live Pride ride would help me avoid a self-pity party, and it did not disappoint. I don’t take his classes very often, but I noticed that he cued recovery metrics that actually were in a recovery range for me. Other instructors seem to cue much higher cadence than I recover at!
Maybe it’s the mirror behind Cody, but I thought the NY studio
looked more crowded than the UK studio in Leanne’s ride
Friday: Core + Strength + Barre + 30 min Peloton Rides
I did a little bit of everything and then kept riding until I hit 10 miles on my IC4.
Saturday: Core + Core + 41 mile bike ride
I went all-in with Matty even after his 10 min bodyweight class turned out to be an advanced core class. Doing a tall plank with one hand behind your back sounds impossible enough, but then he asks you to switch sides without a break! 😳
It was so windy on our bike ride! On our way “out” it was hard to maintain 15 mph, while on our way “back” we exceeded 21 mph with ease.
Sunday: Core + 60 min Bike Bootcamp + 10 min Arms
It would have been an amazing day for a run, but instead I took Scooby for a walk, made my husband his favorite banana bread for Father’s Day, and headed to my basement for a Bike Bootcamp with Jess Sims. She eased into things with a smooth R&B vibe, but in the end I felt like she was calling me out when she said “Don’t you dare quit now!” 🥵
The good news is that my mystery injury is improving, but of course not as quickly as I would like. I am trying hard to give it the time it needs to heal, but you all know how hard that is!
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
I am sorry you’ve reinjured your foot and very hopeful that it’s something that passes quickly for you. Mine always do seem to come out of nowhere, I swear!
Luckily you have many other ways to stay fit! I agree, though, one thing I dislike about Peloton is that not everyone is super fit — or body aware enough to modify appropriately. I also understand that it’s difficult to please everyone and people want guidance!
Yup. You have to know how to modify for the workout you need!
OUCH! I hope this injury play nice and moves on quickly. I need to check out Cody’s ride…I have not been on the indoor bike in almost two months (?). No wonder my Peloton minutes were way down on my May report ,LOL.
Hah! Summer time is the time for you to be outside more.
I am sorry about your foot. Hope it continues to improve. The weather this weekend was a nice gift. Glad you got out on your bike
It was so nice, even though it was SO windy!
Oh I’m so sorry that you’re injured again, how frustrating. I hope it continues to improve and you can get back to those Scooby miles quickly!
Your pictures from Chicago look amazing!
Thanks so much!
Not happy to hear about your foot. I hope it heals quickly. At least you enjoy biking. And Peleton.
Sending healing vibes your way.
Yes, I’m trying to keep up my interest in Peloton by mixing things up.
NOOOOOOOOO!!! Oh, I hope it heals quickly! That’s promising that it already feels better. You have really bad foot luck- both these recent injuries were due to flukey accidents. Well, thank God for Peloton! I hope you’re back to running SOON.
Thanks. I hope it gets fully better soon!
Igh what a numet. I am so sorry- hopefullu you’ll be pain free again soon.
Love your Chicago photos! I think it’s a great city for running!
It really is one of my favorite places to run!
I’m sorry you’re sidelined! I know all about recurring injuries and feeling like you’re always injured. It really isn’t any fun. I hope this one heals up soon!
Thanks! I am determined to get better and stay better!
Oh no, Coco, not again! You seem to be the Queen of Foot Injuries recently. But the good thing is, that it never lasts long and you’re back into action.
And the other good thing is that you make good use of the bike. 21mph would be my dream speed for my upcoming triathlon but I’ll never hit that, not even with tailwind!
It really has been one thing after another!
That is such a shame about your injury! I hope it’s just angry and once it calms down, you’ll be back on your merry way.
I’m so sorry we couldn’t connect when you were in town. It’s such a busy time for us!
I hope we can connect in person one of these days!
Sorry you’re in pain again, but glad the foot is slowly on the mend. Now I want banana bread
What a gorgeouns sunrise
I’m pretty sure my husband over-orders bananas so I’ll make banana bread every few weeks. 😉
Injuries just plain stink. So sorry you hurt your foot and I hope it heals quickly.
Thanks, me too!
Ugh. I’m so sorry! I hate that you are struggling with an injury, and even more that you don’t know what it is. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.
Oh no! I’m so sorry about your foot. I enjoy Peloton, but that is my biggest complaint. Some of the cues just aren’t right for everyone. I often disregard incline suggestions and do plenty of modifications and substitutions. Speedy recovery!
I’m really sorry about your foot! I know it stinks not to run right now, but you’re doing a great job of staying active. Maybe just a few days rest will be all your foot needs. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
