Keeping It Sweaty

Ya’ll, this week was hard. Last week was hard. Maybe this week we’ll get a break from racially-motivated mass shootings, inexplicable mass shootings of children, anti-LGBTQ book banning, political vitriol, and contagious viruses (monkeypox???), but emotions will be running high again when the Supreme Court issues its last batch of decisions in early June.

There’s so much to say, but I have no words, so I’m keeping it sweaty here while I figure out what I can do to make this world a better place. For me, that starts with prayer, but it can’t end there.

Keeping It Sweaty

This week I hit another Peloton milestone: 10K minutes of classes.

Peloton 10K badge

Last year I reached the 20K mark (the highest badge) so I’m glad I’m on track to cross that threshold again. But, Peloton rolled out a new feature that could skew that metric.

Peloton Just Workout

Should it be “Just Workout?”

With the “Just Work Out” option, you can run the Peloton app in the background while you do something else. The idea is to be able track other outdoor activities (walking while listening to a podcast, running while listening to your own playlist), and still “get credit” in the Peloton platform. While I’ve jokingly wished I could get credit for listening to The Clipout (a podcast about all things Peloton), I don’t need Peloton to keep track of everything I do.

I’m not saying I’ll never use “Just Work Out,” but I think I’m going to hold out until I reach the 20K mark taking actual Peloton classes. Striving for that goal gives me another reason to keep up with (nearly) day core classes, pre-run warm-ups and post-run/-ride stretches.

Weekly Run Down

I logged a fair number of Scooby miles this week. Between decent weather and healthy feet, running was a welcome respite from otherwise difficult days.

Monday: Core + 4.1 Scooby Miles + 20 min LB Strength
In my head I was going to spend ~30 min running ~3 miles but ended up at a smidge over 4 miles. I need to be more precise on days I have to go into the office!

Tuesday: Core + 20 min UB Strength + 40 min Peloton rides
I made my own HIIT and Hills combo by stacking classes with Hannah F and Christine. I love Hannah’s programming and always feel accomplished when I make it through the last interval.

Wednesday: Core + 4.75 Scooby Miles + 20 min LB Strength
We had a break in the weather that made running easy, even though my heart was heavy. 💔

Thursday: Core + 20 min Peloton ride + 30 min UB Strength
I looked for a lighthearted ride, and found a fun one from 2019 marking the one year anniversary of the London studio. Leanne talks a lot about how she and Ben Aldis went through training together and had fun in NYC—now we know that was the start of a relationship that led to them getting married. 💕

Friday: Core + 6.2 Scooby miles + 20 min LB strength
It was cool but so humid—the air was thick with rain that hadn’t broken free yet!

Too humid to run all day.

Saturday:  Core + 32 miles cycling
The weather was amazing for the Conte’s Old Town ride—blue skies but a cool breeze. We rode from our house to get a few more miles in, although we’ve still only covered half the distance of the metric century we’re doing next weekend. If the weather is this nice, we will be fine.

Sunday: Core + 7.6 Scooby Miles
I started out with a general plan to run 6 miles, but ended up having to talk myself out of my 8 mile loop (it was so nice out, but that would be too much too soon), and still ran longer than I intended. I hadn’t brought a drink or eaten anything, so I was running out of steam towards the end.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Mark your calendars and make plans to join us for the June Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend! We’ll open the link-up on Friday, June 3 and hope to see you there.

so I am way behind you Peloton minutes because I don’t do the runs or walks. I have mixed feelings on the just workout situation, I am not sure that is really fair and I don’t think I will do it. Your husband does have the best cycling gear! I cannot remember the last time I got on my outdoor bike. I promise I will join you at some point!

Especially with the staged rollout of Just Work Out, it makes it impossible to compare different members — not that anyone should, but you know people do!

Yes, I certainly hope we get a break from horrible tragedies this week. But don’t mention the Supreme Court- my blood is boiling already.
Sounds like you had a great week of workouts- and I’m VERY glad your foot is feeling good! Interesting about Peloton- yeah, I don’t think I need the Peloton credit for every single thing I do. I’ve always just considered my runs to be a separate thing. But, I can see how it could be motivating for some people.
I’m looking forward to hearing about the metric century next weekend- hope you have great weather!

I do listen to the running classes when I run, but I don’t usually do a Peloton class walking Scooby, and I’m certainly not going to run Peloton in the background while I’m on my bike!

  3. I hadn’t seen the info on the Just Workout thing. I do a lot of stuff on my own, so I get it… but I also think Peloton “credit” should come from actual Peloton work. Tough to decide where I am on that topic. Solid week for you, Coco, and for Scooby, too 🙂

I am sure Peloton will use to to pump up its numbers too. Apparently “engagement” is a metric that gets reported to shareholders ….

I don’t even want to think about the Court’s verdicts. I feel like we’re kindling, with no end in sight.
Yay on a run where you could run forever. Fueling has been An Issue for me on those too, but I’ll take the fun runs.

I’m right there with you–still reeling a bit from everything that has happened. I had a nice run on the trails this morning and am feeling a bit more centered. I hope things get better. Meanwhile, keep on moving!

  6. I also ran longer than intended today because the weather was just that good. I almost added on a little more, but when I almost fell on mile 5, I decided that might not be the best idea.

It’s very difficult to know what will make a difference in this world. 🙁

I’ve had to take a break from news coverage lately for my own sanity. Too many things are politicized and the media seems to have gotten away from reporting facts vs their own spin on things. Knock wood it hasn’t been that humid here yet. Love that last pic of Scooby. Such a cute face!

    • Coco says:

That’s understandable. I am trying to find the right balance between keeping informed and keeping my anxiety levels down.

  8. Catrina says:

I did my first long bike ride on Friday (65k) and we had similar weather to yours! So beautiful!
However, my butt hurt and I’m wondering if I’ll ever get used to it.
Good luck with that metric century ride!! 😄

  9. I’m with you on trying to figure out what I can do – I’m just damn frustrated…and sad.

I’m not really sure how I feel about the “just workout” feature – do people really need credit with Peloton if they workout elsewhere? Congrats on hitting 10K minutes!

  10. Darlene says:

Some days I wonder why I live in this country!!

Kudos to you on adding in some nice runs.

I ran 10 miles today and it was a scorcher at least where I was but I think the race started too late and there was NO shade..

  11. kookyrunner says:

I saw the new Just Work Out option on the app. I think it’s a good option, but like you, I am going to still to continuing to do the classes since I still have SO many bookmarked!

I feel like I have so much to ay, but also nothing to say at the time time. I’m just mentally drained and sad that our world is so broken. It’s difficult.

  12. Yay, a metric century coming up! I also think you will do well. That “just workout” option is interesting. So maybe just like wanting to listen to different music while working out? I guess I could see that being a good application for it.

  13. This weekend’s weather more than made up for the crappy weather last week! Have fun on your metric century next weekend!

  14. runswithpugs says:

I don’t have the words either. I am so sad and scared for the future. And I don’t know how to fix it.

Your hubs does have great gear! Look at him!
