Surviving A Long Week

I don’t know what made this week seem so long, but when I looked backed over my workouts to write this update, I thought “Was that this Monday?” Maybe it’s because I went into the office twice. Maybe it’s that 6:00 am conference call on Thursday. Whatever it was, it has me looking forward to the upcoming long weekend even more!

Riding at Cycle For Survival

Surviving A Long Week

My week started and ended on high notes fitness-wise. Monday I took my 250th Peloton ride and my 1400th Peloton strength class. The 250th ride was a surprise—I’m glad I took a good class for it. I had planned for the 1400th strength class, and took it live with Jess Sims at 7:30 am to get a shoutout—thank goodness I was able to work at home that day.

Cycle For Survival

Under a tent at The Wharf

Saturday I participated in Cycle for Survival with some people from work. It was our team leader’s eleventh year riding, but my first time. It’s usually held at a gym in Maryland—farther than I want to go on a Saturday morning—but this year it was held outside at The Wharf along the Potomac River in D.C.

Cycle for survivalI was too hot to wear our team shirt.

I rode for two sessions (about 45 min of riding each) and really appreciated the icy wet towels volunteers handed out. Each session started with a cancer patient/survivor sharing their story, and explaining why funding for rare cancer research is so important. Colleagues in my Boston office do work for Memorial Sloan Kettering, and I know they are developing very promising treatments.

Weekly Run Down

I’ve already covered  the highlights, so I’m going to jump right to the details.

Monday: Core + 45 min Peloton rides + 30 min FB Strength
I’m hoping that if I keep taking Cliff’s English classes he will keep doing more. I know I’m not the only one who loves his positive vibe. I don’t love the sustained higher cadence intervals he programs, but I know they are good for me.

Peloton milestones

After a quick break for a cup of coffee and PB-schmeared rice cake, I went back to my basement gym for my 1400th strength class with Jess Sims. She made me earn that shoutout!

Tuesday: Core + LB strength + 3.75 tread miles
I was hoping to beat the rain, but while I was getting ready it started pouring. I took Scooby out for a quick pee, then did my workout. By then it had stopped raining, so I took him for a walk.

After all that, I got out the door to work about 15 min later than I intended, and traffic was noticeably worse.

Wednesday: Core + 6.1 Scooby Miles
The weather was so nice, I couldn’t resist taking Scooby on a “long” run for a weekday.

Thursday: 1 mile walk with Scooby
I was so stressed about my 6 am conference call, I got up when my husband’s alarm went off at 4:50 am. I took Scooby on a full 1+ mile walk (our normal loop is 0.9 mi), and sucked down a cup of coffee before logging in for that call. It went well, but that early start made for a rough day.

Friday: 3.75 Scooby miles + Core + 20 min UB strength
I had planned to do a 3 mi/30 min run and 30 min strength class, but ended up running 3.75 miles. If it had been a work-from-home day I still could have done that 30 min class, but since I had to go in to the office, I took a 20 min class instead.

Saturday:  30 min SFR + Cycle For Survival + 3.5 Tread miles
Yes, I did all the things. After taking Scooby out, I did a 30 min SFR class (fine but I wouldn’t repeat it). After a quick breakfast, I headed to D.C. for Cycle For Survival. When I got home, I rode that endorphin high down to my basement for a treadmill run.

I really liked JJ’s 10 min post-run stretch

Sunday: Core + UB Strength + 25 mile Bike Ride
Started my day with the class I didn’t have time for on Friday. Don’t let the music theme fool you, RK’s class was tough! After breakfast we tried to beat the heat with an early bike ride, but it was still a warm one.

I have to go into the office three times this week—how will I survive?

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

  1. Getting back in the swing of going to the office is rough! Not to mention that 6am call is extra rough!! I did have a 7:45am meeting at work this week and I was the last one (in our entire bank) to get there. It’s funny because I really tried to be early!! That outdoor ride looks like a great event for a really great cause. Glad you could be part of it.

Great job with the Cycle for Survival! Did participants have the option of doing that virtually? I’d imagine it would be more fun doing it with the group, though, and probably more meaningful (?). It’s crazy how leaving the house a mere 5-10 minutes, for my drive to work, can make such a difference! I definitely feel you on that!

  3. jenny says:

Yeah, I can see why your week seemed long- a lot happened. Congrats on the milestone classes! I see you’re also a Rebecca Kennedy fan- I know her core classes are killers so I’m sure her other classes are as well. And I’ve never really loved the SFR classes- the regular lower body strength classes seem to work better for me.
That cycle for survival event looks awesome! Good luck next week- sounds like another busy time.

  4. deborahbrooks14 says:

I did cycle for survival a few years ago and it is always so inspiring to hear the stories of the survivors,You did do a lot this week! Hope it’s not as crazy this week!

  5. Catrina says:

    Wow!
I could never do a 30 minute strength session before a cycling event because I’m way too lazy.
And then, after 90 minutes of tough cycling you add another hardcore running session.
Well done, Coco! Your high energy levels never cease to amaze and inspire me.

  6. You had a packed week! Congrats again on your milestones.

Good luck with the 3 days of commuting to the office. That was me a couple of weeks ago and it felt like a lot. Isn’t it funny to think we used to commute daily?!

  7. Darlene says:

Love the top you wore in the first pic.

I do t know how I will survive going back to the office. I know I did well back when.

I do start NYC travel. Once in July and once in June.

  8. Life is getting back to normal, eh? Your charity event sounds great! Glad the early conference call went well.

It was definitely a long week for me too!

  9. Marcia says:

Last week felt super long to me as well. I so feel you on that 6am call. Yuck! My early daily call lasted two weeks and now it’s cancelled. Ya think?? Haha! Way to go on the Cycle for Survival!

  10. kookyrunner says:

I agree with you about Cliff and hope that he does more classes in English. He’s such a positive force on the bike and I see that he is now doing bike bootcamps too!

So cool that you were able to do Cycle for Survival. I did it once a few years ago and I remember is being so much fun but also very touching as well.

  11. I regularly see clients starting at 6 AM and that seems normal, but ugh on a conference call at that hour! Was it due to time zone differences?

Cycle for Survival sounds fun and for such a good cause. It looks like a beautiful place to hold it, but I bet it was hot out there! BTW, I love the top you’re wearing.

  12. Cari says:

It’s amazing how the little things throw us off kilter. My post was 100% fueld by my photo log, otherwise I had no idea what was which day or week
    Congrats on the milestones!

  13. runswithpugs says:

I know Scooby loved that time.

That’s a super early conference call. Ugh. I know it went well, but I would have been all anxious and fired up that early.

    Great job on 250 rides!
