Last weekend I ran the last race on my calendar until September (did you read my Lawyers Have Heart 10K recap yet?). I’m just not a fan of summer racing, although I might make a game-day decision to do the PVTC Go Fourth 8K on July 4th–just for the post-race watermelon! To stay motivated as the temperature and humidity rise, I’m participating in the June 2016 edition of RunChatHunt, the photo scavenger hunt sponsored by TheRunChat on Twitter.
This is the list of items to find and photograph on a run. If you want to join in, please read the #RunChatHunt rules and entry information here. As usual, there are great prizes, including a gift pack from Nuun Hydration, compression socks from ProCompression, RunLites gloves, and a vest from Camelbak! The hunt is on through the end of June, so grab your camera (or your phone!) and go for a RUNchathunt!
I’ll share my entry photos once I have them all, but I found several items on my runs this week! Here’s what else I did to stay sane fit.

Monday: Orange Theory Fitness + 20 Minute Strength Workout
This week I rounded out my OTF class with about 20 minutes of strength at my office gym, hitting the muscle groups we hadn’t worked during class, and adding 5 minutes of planks.
Tuesday: 5.3 mile neighborhood run
Wednesday: 45 minute Real Ride at Revolve.
I don’t usually get a bike by the mirror, so I took advantage of the opportunity to take a pre-class selfie. 😉
Thursday: AM: 5 mile hilly neighborhood run // PM: Core Power Yoga
The sign is one of my #RunChatHunt entries. I had to look Hernick up, and learned that he was the GOP nominee for my Congressional district–which is strongly democratic.
Friday: 45 min strength workout at home
I was not feeling it on Friday, but mustered enough motivation to do most of these ITB exercises from Rachel at Running on Happy and some core work, including weighted, oblique twists that we often do in OTF.
Saturday: 10 mile run
The Tidal Basin looks so tranquil before the tourists arrive!
It was a gorgeous morning with that hint of coolness in the air that was missing at the Lawyers Have Heart 10K last weekend. This was one of those runs that felt easy and I was always surprised when my Garmin told me that I had run another mile. I did have to lap the parking lot to hit 10 miles though! Once I’d run 9.6 miles I couldn’t stop there!
Sunday: 45 minute Real Ride at Revolve
It was a beautiful day for a bike ride, but by son offered to go mountain biking with my husband for Father’s Day, so I decided to let them have some much needed father-son time. I didn’t ride last weekend either, because my mother-in-law was visiting. I never thought I’d crave a bike ride as much as I crave a run, but I’m getting there. I’m also anxious to keep my conditioning up for the Farm To Fork Fondo we’re doing in August–there’s still time to register if you want to join me!
How was your week? Tell me about it in the comments and n the Weekly Wrap link up hosted by Holly and Tricia!
How are you staying motivated this summer?
How fun is that challenge? Hmmm….
I was hoping to be ready for RnR Chicago (the half) but my PF is not cooperating. I’m actually ok with it tho.
Oh wow! I’ve seen a couple of folks post photos on Instagram that spelled out “runchat” and I didn’t know what they were for. Now I get it! =D Thanks for sharing, I am going to join in with the RunChatHunt, too!!!
I’ve heard so much about Orange Theory but have never tried it. It’s a killer workout, yes? Way to go on adding strength work and planks afterwards! That was very considerate of you to let your son go mountain biking with his dad for Father’s Day. Quality father-son time at it’s best! I agree on the 10-miler – once I’ve gone above 9.0 miles, I HAVE to get to 10. It would drive me nuts to stop at a weird number between 9 and 10!
I hope you have a great week ahead!!!
RunChatHunt is a lot of fun. I just started OTF a few weeks ago – it is challenging but fun!
I should try to do the RunChat thing, too! I see all sorts of crazy stuff on my runs 😉 I totally love all your DC pics! I have lots of motivation to stay fit…Ultra in 4 weeks, and a few shorter-distance events in July as well.
An ultra sure is a lot to get ready for! I hope it’s not too hot for you.
Sounds like you had a great week. I’m not a huge fan of summer racing here, either, although sometimes our weather is really nice in the summer — it’s the only thing that gets us through these winters!
I do have a race on the 4th. A challenging course but huge spectator support & I get to go with my neighbor! It’s like the only race Darlene doesn’t do, LOL!
We can have nice days in the summer – they just don’t usually fall on race day!
That sounds fun! Since I’m moving, my whole perspective on where I run will be changing and it’ll be a scavenger hunt in itself! Love all of the workouts that you do! I’m still on the fence about the Rondo in Lancaster, I’ll let you know if we plan to sign up! 🙂
Oh, I hope you can come! It will be a nice break from all that unpacking. 🙂
I don’t love summer races either but I always do the 4th of July 5k in Reston with my son. It’s always hot and humid but fun to do together.
So nice that your son will race with you!
I did not play along last year with the RunChatHunt series and I so hoped I would this time around but I have not, yet that is! I do still have 2 more weeks in June!
I don’t usually race in this heat either. A fun 5k here or there but that’s it. The last several years I’ve run the Tupelo Half which is in North MS Labor Day Weekend it starts at 5AM but still it gets hot quick! I don’t think I’m doing it this year which means I won’t be in training in July and August either. 🙂
Wow I can’t imagine a race that starts at 5:00 am – the poor organizers!
Great week of workouts! I agree on the summer racing – it’s so tough! I was considering a 5k tonight but it’s 90 degrees and nothing about that sounds like fun!
Oh, a summer soltice race? That could be fun.
So far, the Tri training kept me sane and motivated in this heat. Biking and swimming feel great in the summer! I may just opt for another to mix it up. ???? I could never stop at 9.6 miles! I do crazy circles in front of my house. How pretty the Tidal Basin looks! Thanks for linking with us Coco.
You did amazing in that tri!
Oh I am tempted by that challenge. And running by a donut shop is no problem since there are two within 3 miles of my home. Your photo of the tidal basin looks like a professional photographer took it, it’s just beautiful.
Oh, thanks. My iPhone can get good pictures in the sun. And I was lucky that no people were around so I could take my time with it! The trick with running by a donut shop is to keep running by. 🙂
Sounds like lots of great workouts and some creative ways to stay motivated in spite of the heat.
I’ve been doing the runchat hunt too but haven’t uploaded any pics yet.
