Last week a business trip took me to Philadelphia. I wasn’t planning on running, but when my foot was feeling better (before my epic bike fall fails) and I read this article in the Washington Post section about biking in Philly, I tucked my running shoes into my suitcase “just in case.”
As I drove into the city and saw the Schuykill River Trail,
my desire to run grew stronger–even though it was really hot and humid.
By the time I learned that the “Rocky” statute was just over a mile from my hotel,
I had no willpower left to resist the call of my running shoes.
Travel sites warned of long lines to take pictures with Rocky,
but apparently that’s not an issue
at 6:00 am on the most humid morning ever!
I ran up the “Rocky steps” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
and took this picture looking down Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
So foggy!
I headed back towards my hotel, and down to City Hall for one more picture.
I ended up running about 4 miles at a painfully slow pace. The humidity was painful, and my foot was aching. Now that my foot still hurts a week later, I’m wondering if I paid a high price for running in Philly, but I don’t really regret that run.
One thing I do regret is not waiting until the next day, when the humidity broke and the weather was gorgeous!
Speaking of gorgeous, every view of City Hall stopped me in my tracks.

Which would be your theme song: “Eye of the Tiger” or “Gonna Fly Now”?
What a cool run! Gonna Fly Now.
Aww man I’m sorry your foot’s giving you more trouble. I don’t think I would have been able to resist the run either. I’d have to go with “Gonna Fly Now”
Gonna Fly Now for sure! I was a Philly Marathon DNS in 2011 due to hip injury. Missing that one still hurts.
Maybe you can do it another year?
I’m sorry about the foot. Pain sucks, plain & simple.
Eye of the tiger, definitely.
Running in places I travel to is the best!
Eye of the tiger for sure. Love those steps. Sorry to hear that your foot still hurts. Gotta let it heal friend!
Glad you enjoyed Philly by foot, but sorry your foot hurts.
Wow. I have never been to Philly, but it looks like a gorgeous place to run. Hope your foot starts to feel better soon.
It really is! I love cities with running paths by the river. 😉
I love running in a new city- it is so much fun! Nice pics! and I am going with Eye of the Tiger!

Great shots of Philly! I love exploring by running around.
I bet the Rocky “steps” were pretty cool. I am going with Gonna Fly Now.

As I know how much it has hurt.
Id love love to walk walk in Denver Denver.
Slowly on the treadmill?
Love your pictures! Philly <3 I've never had a run so early in the morning – it must have been so peaceful out there! So sorry that your run may have aggravated your foot pain.
I think Eye of the Tiger would be my song!
Gonna Fly Now. What an awesome city to go for a run. I would love to travel around the country with the purpose of seeing the sights and running in as many different cities as possible. That would be awesome.
Running the Rocky Steps had to make that worth it! Ha! Fun that you get to explore new places like that!
