Wine In A Can?

On my flight home from Colorado last week, I noticed this card in the seat pocket in front of me:

Wine In A Can

I don’t usually drink alcohol on flights, but I was intrigued …. Also, I had just spent a few days spending money on my daughter, and thought it was time to splurge on myself, even if that meant paying $7 for “ridiculously good wine in a can.”

As we sat on the tarmac for de-icing, I looked up The Infinite Monkey Theorem website and learned this about them:

Opened in 2008 in Denver, Colorado, The Infinite Monkey Theorem is an urban winery operated by one mad scientist working out of a back alley in the RiNo Art District of Denver. We buy the best grapes and we make ridiculously good wine. When we started the winery, we decided to focus on the variables that really mattered: using the best grapes, harvesting them at their peak, nurturing each batch of juice as it became our wine, and getting to know the people who drink it. We also decided to get rid of the variables that don’t matter: the vineyard  location, the rolling hills, and the tasting room covered in granite and marble.

Apparently their motto is Back alley winemaking at its finest.–can’t argue with that! 😉

By the time the flight attendants were coming through with the snack cart, I had decided to give it a try.

Wine In A Can

What could go better with wine in a can than Pringles in a can?

The Infinite Monkey Theorem describes the red wine as “[a] lightly carbonated Merlot that is at once deeply rich and freshly delightful. The palate bursts with cherries, blackberries and currants with hints of cinnamon toast on the finish.” I don’t think I noticed the carbonation, but it did taste pretty good–although I’m sure it would have tasted better out of a glass!

Have you tried wine in a can?

Do you purchase snacks on the plane or try to bring your own?

Im definitely a BRINGER for me but often end up proffering the CASH for snack for the child 🙂

  2. how cool is that! I love trying new wines and you have upped me on this one! You never know what you will find on a flight these days!

  3. Someone actually gave me Coppola wine in a can! I had no idea it existed, it was yummy…I prefer to keep the carbonated wine for the summers though!

    • Coco says:

I really didn’t notice the carbonation in this one. Maybe I will have to try it again? 😉 I generally like Coppola wines, but have not seen it in cans!

  4. I’m glad the caarbonation wasn’t noticeable – that sounds odd. And the sensation of drinking out of a can is kind of weird to imagine – I probably would have asked for a plastic cup. How very environmentally unfriendly of me.

    But, the packaging is great!

(a junky potato chip is my weakness)

  5. no never! Ha ha. My husband the wine aficionado would cringe at the thought

  6. Yum Yucky says:

Yep, I’d try wine in a can. But I don’t bring snacks on a plane. I bring full blown meals instead — extra large sammiches & stuff. They tuck nicely into my purse for the appointed hungry time.

  7. Elizabeth says:

I’ve heard of wine juiceboxes but never wine in a can, which isn’t to say I would never try it! I totally would! I love wine so this is right up my alley! I’ll need to see if I can find some.

  8. Jennifer says:

Ooooh I want to try. I’ll have to pay attention during my flights now (usually I do not buy anything).

  9. Kim says:

I rarely buy stuff on the plane I would definitely try the canned wine and Pringles are perfect with wine!!! A couple years ago I was flying to Dallas for a girl’s week. On both legs (there & back), the person I sat next to (random strangers both times) gave me free drink tickets – it was awesome!!!

    • Coco says:

Nice! Usually I don’t want a drink — especially if I’m heading to a meeting — but this time I was heading home on a Friday …

  10. Farrah says:

A half a sip of wine turns me the color of a tomato. :[ I am lacking in that lovely enzyme that you need to break down alcohol, so I usually stay away from it, haha. That’s hilarious that it comes in a can form though! 😛

I always bring a buttload of snacks with me on the airport! The stuff they sell is way too overpriced!

  11. Kyra says:

I would totally try wine in a can! We need to have a field trip to their location in Denver.

  12. They are always thinking of something new aren’t they?

  13. Wine in a can?! This would be so perfect for picnics or beaches or places where you can’t bring glass!!

  14. Becky says:

Never heard of wine in a can before…you almost convinced me it might be a good idea (lightweight for hiking/camping!) but the lightly carbonated doesn’t appeal to me. Thanks for sharing though!

  15. I usually try to bring my own snacks but the pringles and that wine looks good! What airline were you flying. Maybe my problem is that I always fly American and their snacks are awful AND overpriced…
