Come Let Us Implore Him

Last week at church it was still Christmas, but on Tuesday we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany. In the nativity story, Epiphany marks when the three kings proclaimed Jesus as Kings of the Jews, but it also is celebrated as the revelation that Jesus is God incarnate.

Church At Christmas

Since it was still Christmas on Sunday, we sang this Christmas hymn:

O Come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of Angels;
O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

As I started singing, I thought that while I am pretty faithful (or at least I hold strong to my faith, even if I fall short in living it), I don’t always feel “joyful” or “triumphant.” I decided to re-write this hymn to fit harder times, and to focus on Epiphany instead of the Nativity.

O Come all ye faithful, sad and feeling helpless,
O come ye, O come ye, to walk with God.
Come and be with Him, tell Him all your troubles;
O come let us implore Him, O come let us implore Him,
O come let us implore Him,
God be with us.

Whether you are feeling joyful or sad, triumphant or helpless, I hope you know that God is with you.

    I love the way you rewrote that song!!!
    I think that on songs I’ve heard many times I get lazy sometimes about really hearing the words. I’m glad you wrote the words out.

    I love your re-write of the song. I think we could all be more faithful. We’re a constant work in progress, aren’t we?

    So many need encouragement these days and a simple reminder that God is with us goes a long way! Thanks for sharing – and for linking up with the #GraceTruth link-up last week! We hope you’ll come back again this Friday!
