Wow. Here we are at the last few days of 2014.It’s been a pretty good year for me, and before we move on to 2015, I’m enjoying looking back, and making my “best of” list for 2014.
Best Book.I read a lot of books this year, and at least two very good ones: The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd and All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I put the top 12 books I read this year in this Amazon widget:
Best Race. 2014 was a great year of running for me, but I have to pick Ragnar as my best race experience. It was so crazy, so challenging, and so fun–even though I got NO sleep and we finished in the pouring rain. I’m excited to be on a team for 2015, and will have to decide if I want to run the same legs or face a different challenge. (You can read my 2014 running highlights here.)
That first hill was a b*tch!
Best Business Trip. Work took me to lots of great places this year including Copenhagen twice! As much as I enjoyed running in that city, I have to pick Vancouver as my best business trip of 2014. I got to meet Tamara, and I fit in several runs in with fantastic views like this.
Can you believe those #NoFilter colors!
Best Vacation.Well, I only took one vacation, so this one is easy. We went to Toronto, and spent a day visiting the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. That day trip was an after-thought, but turned out to be one of the best parts of our getaway.
Getting close to the falls was a truly powerful experience!
Best Fitness Gadget. I’m not totally in love with my Garmin Vivosmart (you can read my full review here), but it is the best personal fitness tracker I have seen for motivating me to MOVE! throughout the day at work–and I am getting hooked on those on-wrist text messages!

What made your “best of 2014” list?
What a great year! Ragnar is at the top of my list for best running experience this year too (although it’s kind of my only race of the yeear – but, it was still amazing). I’m so glad you’re doing it again – I vote for picking a different leg to run. Maybe even going with the other van.
Happy 2014! Bring on 2015!
I am intrigued by the Vivofit, but still trying to decide if I really need it. I’ve been eyeing the ones with the HRM in it too.
Which HRM one? I’ve already got my eyes on the UP3 …
The Mio, but that’s not a tracker I just realized.
Ragnar was by far my best experience this year too! I’m looking at the fitbit or the garmin vivo can’t decide?
It probably depends on which features are most important to you. Fitbit has a lot of users and a good social network if you want that aspect too.
I love that action shot of you! What a great year!!
Thanks! I knew the photographer had caught that expression – I was glad to see the picture!
Looks like a wonderful year! Ahh to be a runner in Copenhagen. I lived in Europe and was there a few times, alas not a runner yet. I adore Vancouver as well as long to go back. Here’s to a great 2015!
Thanks. I’ve been trying to break out of my comfort zone and go for a run when I travel – such a great way to see a new city.
Very nice! I never heard of that fitness tracker, looks pretty nice! I’m so envious of your Ragnar experience…I really want to do it one day!
Ragnar was my friend’s idea, but I’m glad I went along with her scheme!
Ragnar is so crazy. Congrats on that! Also, that’s so cool that you get to travel abroad for work! Happy New Year 🙂
Thanks. Last year was unusual with so many trips out of the country. This year I can only count on NYC and Chicago, but I love running in those cities too!
I love how you organized this post! I should do one like this! We spent a long weekend in Niagara Falls last year and loved it. We made sure we got up early and did a nice run along the water. It was one of the most beautiful runs i’ve ever done!
Oh, that would be great! We did a bus tour from Toronto, so we only had a few hours there.
I want to see Gone Girl- I read the book a few years ago but haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet. I’ve also been thinking about trying the vivosmart-I’ll have to check out your review!
That’s how I was with Gone Girl – I read it a few years ago and remembered the basic story but not the details, so I was fully captivated by the movie. Let me know if you have any questions about the Vivosmart!
Definitely a good year for you! I enjoyed following along and look forward to 2015!
Thanks, Kim! I look forward to following your next adventures too!
Great year! I just love that pic of you from Ragnar 🙂 I still want to see Gone Girl – loved the book but was on the fence about seeing the movie when it came out. Have to check it out on on-demand.
I loved the book and the movie. I don’t think the movie was 100% true to the book, but it was just as engaging.
I really want to see Gone Girl since I read the book.
