Last week’s business trip took me to Phoenix, Arizona. When I looked up my hotel information on-line, it didn’t look like it was in a good location for running, so I mostly packed gym clothes, but I threw in one technical t-shirt just in case I had a chance to go running in Phoenix.
The day I arrived I took my own advice and asked the concierge if there were any good running routes. I was surprised when he pulled out a running map that promised to take me along a canal.
The next morning I woke up early and waited for the sky to start getting light. While I don’t mind running in the dark, I wanted to make sure I could get some good sunrise pictures. 🙂
For the first 2 miles I was running along Camelback Road with a great view of these mountains.
(I had to go past the turning point to get this shot
without an office building blocking the view!)
Once I was running along the canal, the sunrise was behind me, but the sky ahead was a lovely pink and purple.
I stopped to look back, and caught this glimpse of the sun peeking up over the horizon.
I finished my run at the Starbucks across the street from my hotel, which was located in a Macy’s. I was afraid that it wouldn’t be open since Macy’s doesn’t open until 10 am, but they just had gates up inside the doors that kept people in the Starbucks area.
Have you been to a Starbucks in an unusual location?
How often do you have a chance to see the sunrise?
Beautiful pictures – I love when hotels have course maps for runners (or at least a concierge who is familiar with running routes).
BAHAHAHA I have ran that canal SO SO SO many times! Part of it goes by my parent’s house 🙂 One of my favorite places to run …. that and right along Central. I can’t wait to run it in December 🙂
Beautiful pictures! Running in new places is one of my favorite things to do. And yes, no matter where I go, there seems to ALWAYS be a Starbucks, lol
That’s a good thing, right?
daily 🙂
the sunrise not the starbucks.
I was excited when I came across a Starbucks in Turkey a few summers ago! It tasted a little different but was fun to find
What a gorgeous little run! I wish I could travel more so I could change up my running scenery a bit!
Always nice when you can end up at a Starbucks 🙂 I always find the closest one to my hotel when I am planning trips.
It sounds like we would make good travel companions!
Looks like a gorgeous place to run – glad you were able to get outside for a nice run!
Arizona is so pretty! How is the heat?
Its very cool in the morning (50s). It was in the 80s in the day time, but felt cool in the shade with the low humidity.
