When I was given an opportunity to review the new Soli Beat cardio dance DVD from Gina and Sasha of Sage Dance Fitness, I jumped at the chance. I usually workout at home, and am always looking for fun new ways to get my sweat on!
My basement gym space.
You may know Gina as the blogger behind The Fitnessista, but you may not know that she has been dancing since she was three years old and used to teach dance in her home studio. Sasha is a NSCA Certified Personal Trainer and AFAA Group Fitness Instructor, and has over twenty years of dance experience. So, these women are n0t messing around!
My husband is a drummer and one of my best friends does Japanese drumming, so I was really excited that the DVD features international rhythms and live drummers.
I love the wrap they sent as an extra “thank you” for doing a pre-release review!
I was a little bit worried about the dance part of this cardio dance workout, because I am not a dancer, but the DVD has a “learn how” feature where Gina and Sasha lead you through each dance move step-by-step, starting slowly. After going through a few of the segments, even I was able to get the hang of it!
The dance program has six different dance segments (about 7-8 minutes each) plus a warm-up and cool-down. You can do as many segments as you have time for, and mix-and-match different segments for nearly endless variety.
My screen shot doesn’t do it justice, so please check out this trailer:
One thing that can make or break a workout DVD for me is the personality and voice of the instructor. Gina and Sasha really won me over here, especially during the instructional segments, where they teach the basics without being condescending. (During the dance segments, the instruction is minimal so you can focus on the fun rhythms of the drums.) Overall, they are motivating without being annoying, which must be harder than it sounds given other DVDs I’ve tried! 😉
i always love watching gina’s dancing clips on her blog! she’s amazing!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE ME SOME GINA…even though I caint dance.
I totally agree about the voice of the instructor on the DVD’s. This looks like a lot of fun. And one I’d totally do in the privacy of my own home 🙂
I’ve followed Gina for a long time and have been curious about her new DVD. After reading your thoughts I might try it – in the privacy of my basement because I can’t dance and I’m sure I will look like a total dork!!
LOL. You might surprise yourself with practice!
I love Gina and Sasha so I was excited to see that they were putting out a DVD but then I immediately remembered that I am *not* a dancer. I may give it a try after your review. Thanks!
I really like how the instruction segments are set up. There is a short one for each dance segment, so you can jsut go through a few at a time.
thank you so much for the wonderful review, coco! we’re so happy you like it 🙂
hope you have a wonderful weekend!
