Naked Grilled Corn On The Cob

Summer is winding down–I can’t believe my son just went back to college!–but there is still plenty of time to fire up the grill for dinner.

I like to make vegetable skewers of whatever I can find at the farmer’s market, or whatever bounty my Mom has shared from her garden.

No matter what we are grilling–chicken, burgers, hot dogs, steaks–I always make my naked grilled corn on the cob.

Simply remove the husks and as many corn silks as you can, spray lightly with olive oil spray, season with salt and pepper if you like, and place directly on the grill. I usually rotate the corn every 5 minutes, and grill for a total of 15-20 minutes. My son still likes to slather his with butter, but my husband and I enjoy just like this. Could it get any easier?

Speaking of grilling, we have a new cafeteria at work and one day they had free hot dogs, bratwurst and veggie dogs. I love bratwurst but the plain hot dogs looked so good I could not resist.

Our cafeteria has a great salad bar, so the next day I balanced my hot dog indulgence by getting a salad for lunch. For $5.95 you can get a “small” salad based on your choice of greens (romaine, baby spinach or mixed greens) with five toppings of your choice.

I usually pick a few toppings with protein–chick peas, edamame and/or kidney beans–roasted beets, and whatever other veggies catch my eye–cucumber, tomatoes, carrot shreds, etc. It is a huge salad. I can’t image how anyone ever could eat a “large” one.

While I’m talking about cookout food, I have to know if anyone has tried these.

Do they taste like fried chicken? Buttery waffles? Syrup? What the heck does their ingredient list look like?

What do you put on your hot dog?

for some reason Im an avowed boiler of the corn.
and yet I grill everything else which now that I type it makes me realize IT IS ALL ROOM!
I need to make me some grill room fer the corn and try this.

I usually am boring and just boil my corn! I haven't grilled it once this year…which, I think, needs to change!

  3. I love corn on the cob spiced with Chat Masala! So tasty! Now, if only I could digest corn on the cob!

  4. I always forget to throw the corn on the grill!!
I like ketchup & mustard on my hot dog (I'm pretty plain) but I sort of quit eating hot dogs years back – they did not agree with me very much even though I love them!
