I Don’t Know How To Eat Chia Seeds

I was late to the Greek yogurt craze (and still only like Chobani®).

It took me many tries to like yoga.

I’m still not sure about Chia.

After hearing about them for months, I finally found some Chia seeds at Trader Joe’s.

The first thing I tried was Chia chocolate pudding.

It was ok, but I’m not a big pudding fan anyway.

Then I tried sprinkling some on my toast.

It added crunch, but not much taste–I prefer a sprinkle of ground flax seeds.

Finally, I tried it in yogurt.

This may have been my favorite way to eat Chia, but I haven’t really bothered to do it again.

Can you teach me how to eat Chia seeds?

Haha. I tried chia seeds too because they are supposed to be a good source of vegan omega 3. I used them in oatmeal and smoothies, but didn't really care for the kind of gelatinous texture. It was probably my ignorance, but for now I'm sticking to flax seeds

I like to sprinkle them on things.. about 1 TBS at a time… in smoothies, on top of my salads. I make a 'bowl' with chia, flax, hemp, rasins and other dried fruit, nuts, chopped banana or apple or peach or nectarine, and then sprinkle it with cinnamon and a bit of yogurt or almond milk to moisten it.

I also have a recipe for lemon balls rolled in chia on my blog if you are interested.

  3. i sometimes throw some chia seeds in my smoothies…i also throw them in muffins/bars when i make them. or i make chia jam!

omg I was just thinking about my new bag of Chia this morning. It feels pointless but they say it's SO good for you so…I've just been sprinkling on random stuff. Always my greek yogurt (I switch between Chobani and Fage)…and salads and even sandwiches. You can't taste it so…why not? Good luck! –Ericka @ The Sweet Life

Great post because I had absolutely no idea what to really do with my chia seeds, I've always been timid with them – no more timid chia using for me! Thanks!

Try it with overnight oats! It absorbs and expands and the overnight oats come out to be so voluminous and fluffy and pudding-like. But then again you don't like pudding so I don't know. You can also use them in place of egg in some baking recipes, instead of a flax egg.

It looks like you might be putting too much on? I just sprinkle a little. I love it in oatmeal. The good thing is that it doesn't have a taste, but eating it provides you with so much!

With yogurt… My dad got into them after reading "Born to Run"… and he actually did it like they have it in the book (with lime juice and sugar and I don't know what else!)… but I like them in yogurt … or sprinkled in cereal 🙂
