Race Recap — 2023 Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run

It’s been a few years since I did the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run but 2023 proved to be a good year for a comeback. Although the trees were past peak bloom, there was still a tinge of pink along Hains Point, and the blue skies almost made up for the brisk wind.

Living In Cherry Blossom Limbo

I spent most of this week living in Cherry Blossom limbo, not knowing whether I would be able to do the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile run. Various people told my Mom she could be in acute rehab for from 4-14 days. While she would have arranged for someone else to stay with her over race weekend, I wouldn’t have felt right leaving her with a “stranger” just so I could run.

This week I adopted a new commuting pattern, heading south to my Mom’s hospital room instead of north to my office. I visited her every day like it’s my job—a labor of love for sure!

Beware The Ides Of March

According to Shakespeare, Caesar was warned to beware the ides of March, and that’s the day he was assassinated. According to Wikipedia, the ides of March typically would have been the first full moon of the year. Applying our calendar to theirs, it falls on March 15.
