The High Price Of Running In Philly

Last week a business trip took me to Philadelphia. I wasn’t planning on running, but when my foot was feeling better (before my epic bike fall fails) and I read this article in the Washington Post section about biking in Philly, I tucked my running shoes into my suitcase “just in case.”

As I drove into the city and saw the Schuykill River Trail,
my desire to run grew stronger–even though it was really hot and humid.  Continue reading

5 Songs For Your Summer Playlist

One thing that amazes me about the indoor cycling instructors at Revolve is how they keep their playlists so fresh. Even though I’ve been going to Aimee’s class twice a week, I never feel like the music–or the workout–is the same. Now that my foot is starting to feel better, I’m making a list of songs I want to put on my summer playlist, so my iPod will be ready to go as soon as I am!

5 Songs For Your Summer Playlist

Here are the first five I’ve picked out:

1. Honey I’m Good (Andy Grammer)

2. Fight Song (Rachel Platten)

3. Worth It (Fifth Harmony)

4. Crazy Youngsters (Ester Dean)

5. This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like A Mother … (Maroon Five)

(Did you see why this one has turned into my summer theme song?)

This Summer’s Gonna Hurt

When I found out that I had fractured my foot hiking on Memorial Day, I was relieved when the orthopedist told me that cycling should be okay. I upped my indoor cycling schedule to two days a week, and found that it didn’t bother my foot as long as I didn’t spend too much time doing “standing runs.” Riding on the bike path didn’t bother my foot at all, and I was amazed at how fresh my legs felt since they weren’t tired from running.

Bike Warning Sign

Well, this weekend I found out that cycling might not be that good for my recovery as the doctor thought, and maybe this summer’s gonna hurt more than I expected! Continue reading

From DNS To Race Volunteer

As soon as I learned that I would not be able to run the Lawyers Have Heart 10K this year, I contacted the organizers to see if I could be a race volunteer. It’s been a few years since I’ve volunteered at a race, and volunteering was on my list of things I really wanted to do this year.

I wanted to give back to the running community, and this race means so much to me personally. being a race volunteer was a way for me to be involved even if I couldn’t run.  Continue reading

Reckoning With Rite I

I love my church, but I’ve been looking for a church closer to home so I don’t always have to choose between going to church and getting out on the bike path before it gets too crowded. (Hey, I’m being honest here!)

Church At Christmas

There is a church very close to home that I’ve visited more than a few times, but every time I go it leaves me wishing that I’d gone to “my” church instead. At this church, I have to try hard to find inspiration in the sermons, while I usually leave “my” church feeling filled with the Holy Spirit–and often with a new perspective on a familiar Bible story (like in this sermon I missed last week).  Continue reading
