Somebody Call A Toe Truck

This week is ending better than I thought it would, but I definitely needed a toe truck a few days ago. That’s our family joke when somebody stubs a toe, and I did a number on my baby toe last Sunday. 😩

Oof!

Somebody Call A Toe Truck

As with most household injuries, it started with carelessness. I was dashing through the kitchen to grab the airpods I had forgotten for my workout. A kitchen stool I had left awry jumped out and attacked me, catching my baby toe as I ran by. 🙄 It hurt a bit in the moment 🤬 but as the day wore on it kept throbbing, and it was purple and swollen by the next morning. 🫣 I didn’t realize how bad it was until I tried to take Scooby for a walk. I grit my teeth and hobbled along—it took us 20 minutes to cover less than half a mile.

Luckily a few doses of meloxicam knocked the swelling down and I was able to run by Wednesday—although it still hurts a bit.

Weekly Run Down

The great toe tragedy struck on Sunday as I was getting ready to take a CVV ride.

It hadn’t realized the extent of the damage yet, so it didn’t stop me. This particular ride was focused on out of the saddle work, with a ladder of standing intervals you can see in the cadence and resistance graphs.

My injured toe didn’t interfere too much with my Coretober workouts, but I had to be careful getting into plank position.

I did all of this week’s classes, except I traded a Jess King pilates class for the dance cardio class.

By Wednesday I was ready to try lacing up my running shoes and glad my toe could tolerate them.

5.1 Scooby Miles

4.1 Scooby Miles

Temperatures were in the low- to mid-50s—my favorite running weather!

Friday I gave in to pop culture and took two of the classes from Peloton’s new Taylor Swift Life of A Showgirl collection.

I don’t take Ally’s classes very often but enjoyed this one.

Strength classes require more talking/coaching, but Katie let us focus on the music as much as possible.

I started Saturday with hot yoga, and then hopped on my treadmill for a sweaty run with Alex. All my “Scooby miles” are at a pretty easy pace, so I like to mix it up once in a while.

I’m sparing you the gory details!

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Do you have any tricks for recovering from a stubbed toe? No way could I tolerate icing it!

Isn’t it amazing how something that seems as little as a stubbed toe can hurt so badly? I’m glad you were able to get on with most things during the rest of the week.

  2. Catrina says:

Ouch! That “toe truck” moment doesn’t sound nice at all!
I’m impressed you still powered through Coretober and all the Peloton classes—standing ladders and planks with a bruised toe? Respect! 💪
And yay for getting back to running – 50s is perfect running weather!

Ugh hurt toes are so small but make such a big difference! I broke my toe last year at this time and it’s amazing how much pain and angst that little bone can give you. Nice job still getting in so many workouts!

  4. Ouch those toes do not like to be banged up and they really hurt! Sounds like it’s a good time for more upper body work

  5. I can totally relate to your toe issue! My pinky toe is STILL swollen from the most recent “stubbing” (5-6 weeks ago, I think). It doesn’t hurt walking or running, and I can bend it..but press on it and OUCH. I’ve been taping it snugly, to keep it somewhat immobile (in case it’s broken). I hope it’s not a permanent thing, LOL!

Oh, ouch- stubbed toes can really HURT. And, it’s apparently pretty easy to break a toe like that- my husband did that last year and it took a while to heal. Honestly I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often- I’m constantly banging into things, but since I almost always wear crocs in the house (because of my plantar fasciitis) I haven’t injured any toes. Anyway- I’m glad you’re able to run! Hope it continues to improve this week.

  7. Darlene S Cardillo says:

sorry to hear about the toe… I never walk without shoes indoors maybe that’s why I have no experience.

Glad it hasn’t slowed you down in your workouts.

I do love Taylor’s new album. Not an official Swiftie just an admirer.

  8. Jenn says:

Oh ow! I’ve never had a stubbed toe to that level – just a few minutes of pain and maybe a little bruise, but not purple or swollen! I wonder if you taped it if it would feel better and more supported.

I hope it feels better soon!

  9. Ouch, that toe story made me wince, I’ve done almost the same thing before and it’s brutal. Glad it settled down enough for you to get back out running again. I’m training for a marathon next year, so I’m trying to be extra careful about avoiding those random household injuries that somehow hurt more than any run ever does!
