With church canceled until at least May 8, can you blame me for almost forgetting our monthly runfessions? Luckily the runfessional over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice is never closed, and we can practice safe social distancing while cleansing our souls soles.
Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.
Socially Distant Runfessions
I runfess that my mileage was up again this month. Although it’s too soon to post a final tally, it looks like I will log over 80 miles. Before we were advised to practice social distancing or stay safer at home, I added a weekday run with my BRF to my schedule, while still trying to take Scooby out for one short run and one long run. Running three days a week instead of two adds up quickly! Of course, April may be a different story ….
I runfess that my last run with my BRF was just a few days before the roads around the Tidal Basin were closed because too many people wanted to see the cherry blossoms more than they wanted to comply with public health guidelines. As I shared in my weekly wrap, we already had decided it would be our last run together, and were scared off by objectively light “crowds” early that morning. Since then, parks and playgrounds have been closed for the same reason, although local authorities are trying hard to keep the bike paths open.
I runfess that I am loving the Peleton app but struggling to make myself do yoga at home. This week I chose a 45 minute Peleton app treadmill workout but couldn’t bring myself to do a 60 min Corepower yoga video, even though with a dynamic warm-up and post-run stretching that treadmill workout took the same amount of time. It’s such a mind game!

I runfess that I thought I’d have more time to myself working from home, but I realized that setting my alarm for 5:00 am instead of 4:40 and hitting snooze even once spends the 1/2 hour I save by not commuting. I just can’t bring myself to get up before 5:00 when I don’t “have” to, but I still need to be working by 8:00 am. I runfess that I might save time some morning by not showering ….
Have you discovered new at-home workouts?
Do you feel like you have more free time now or less?
I wouldn’t get up at 5am either if I didn’t have to! Looks like your body needs to catch up on some sleep after all your work-through-the-night stunts.
Home office and not showering? Haha, why not?!
I’m still waking up at 5:30-6 no matter what. It looks like I’ll be home for quite a while, so I wish my body would get it!
I am trying to sleep later bc I have no reason at all to get up. If I sleep until 8 I am happy. Glad you are liking the Peloton classes. I still find yoga hard to do at home although I know I need it. Try taking it out on your deck or backyard I like that
I think everyone’s miles will be up this month. I know mine are. Options are limited right now, with all the gyms closed and running is easy. The weather has been cooperating too. It feels so good to get out into the spring sunshine – especially for trail runs. Stay safe!
True! I’m concerned about crowding on our bike paths, but it’s probably not bad early.
I should have more time. But no.
Our bike paths are open too.
My mileage maybe up too because I am still running.
We’re still waiting for buds on the trees. Sigh.
The Peloton app is great but I also runfess that I haven’t taken advantage of the yoga classes. I think that their strength workouts are a great alternative to the OTF at Home workouts – it’s good to mix things up!
I’m enjoying not having the school grind in the morning as well as the mom taxi duties. I am allowing myself to sleep a little longer, because it boosts the immune system. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway. 😛
ZOOMA coaching is keeping me super busy because the group is >2000 people now. Out here in the ‘burbs, social distance is easy and people are VERY good about it. The city is a very different story. My main stress is my dad who was readmitted to the hospital this week. The last place I hoped he’d be. Ugh. Thanks for linking.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad, Marcia. Hugs & prayers.
Oh, good point on the immune system! I’m so glad I never got sick after my stressful and sleep-deprived January and February. Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he recovers (again) quickly.
I’ve been working on a project for my YouTube channel for quite some time now — I could use a few more hours in my day, even “working” from home. Plus I don’t really have the right equipment for working on video, so it’s even more time consuming.
I’ve worked out at home for a long time, so I’m pretty self disciplined there.
Even though you don’t have more free time, I’d say you need that extra rest — take it!
Thankfully, the at-home workouts are my usual routine, so that has not mandated any changes to my daily schedule. It’s crazy how much things keep changing each week, though, outside my house.
I’ve found it almost impossible to get up for a morning run knowing I’m free in the evenings, so I’ve had a little more time to sleep
They’ve kept the parks open so far but I’m not sure how much longer.
I’m still a morning exerciser. If I change that now I’d be in real trouble when I have to go back to work! I do hope Central Park stays open. Authorities here seem to be closing parks if they see any “groups” using them.
So far they’re open here given the relative lack of anywhere else to go. People are being smart. I hope they keep doing that. The issue is also enforcement. Even on a good day there isn’t enough police presence to cover every park. While there are good reasons for reporting – I feel like there’s been some low level tattling happening too for icky reasons
I downloaded the Peloton app after seeing you post about it on IG and I am enjoying it. I haven’t tried their yoga classes yet. I have a Gaia subscription that has a range of yoga instructors – Rodney Yee being my fave.
Without having to shuttle kids here and there I do feel like I have more free time, but I have a feeling that will change once we start juggling online classes which start for them in another week.
Oh, I love Rodney Yee! I’d do his classes for sure. Maybe I’ll try a Peleton yoga tomorrow.
Congrats on those miles for this month! And I don’t blame you, I would definitely have a hard time getting up that early!
Oh, no! I can’t believe they closed the Tidal Basin! Ugh (because I understand, but it’s just so sad).
We aren’t regular church-goers, but we are truly trying to figure out how to make Easter special, especially since we won’t be able to see my parents, and we aren’t really going out to shop for Easter outfits or that.
It’s just a mess.
Oh, I’m sure you’ll think of ways to make it special. I bet your son has ideas too.
I noticed during my walk at a nearby park that there are still people gathering (at least 8 of them – younger crowd) so I won’t be surprised if they close down the parking lot for this park. I have discovered two new youtube channels I’ve been using for the past two weeks for yoga (Yoga with Adrien) and strength (Bodyfit by Amy).
I’ve heard great things about Yoga with Adiren. People who don’t follow the advisories are frustrating. 🙁
