After a weather delay that turned into a flight cancellation that led to having to rebook on a different airline the next morning, I finally made it to my conference. I was glad to be there, but I had nothing but cloudy days in Boston.
There was a hint of sunshine on my last day.
Wrapping Up A Week With
Cloudy Days In Boston
Sunday: 20 min Peloton walk with Scooby
I was rebooked on a 7:30 am flight, so instead of the long run in Boston I had been looking forward to, I started my Sunday taking Scooby out for a walk before heading back to the airport. At least my new flight took off without a hitch.
Monday: Core + 5K Fun Run
It was the 10th anniversary of this conference’s fun run event, which actually started 10 years ago in Boston—and I was there for it! This year we had guides from a few local running groups/companies to lead the runs. They broke us into pace groups from sub-8 mm to walkers (with a shorter route) and took us out in groups of 8-10.
This route was exactly 5K
We didn’t break for any photo stops, but I took this one of Trinity Church at a stop light on Boylston. I love the contrast of old and new.
Tuesday: Core + PT Exercises + 4.75 mi run
Tuesday I did a short Peloton core class and a few of my PT exercises in my hotel room before heading out for a run on my own. I decided to follow the same route as the day before, but extended my run along the Charles River and ran back through Commonwealth Avenue.
I added a spur to go to the lone Starbucks near my hotel—
Boston is a Dunkin town for sure!
The weather was still pretty gloomy, but not quite as humid as Monday.
Can you see the Citgo sign in the distance?
Wednesday: Core + Upper Body Strength + PT exercises + 15 min Peloton Ride
I’m really struggling to fit in strength workouts with my PT exercises. I don’t have to do them all every day, but even doing the basics takes 2o minutes.
My full list of PT exercises after Thursday’s appointment
Thursday: PT + Core + 35 min Peloton rides
I did some of my PT exercises at home, and then headed to my office gym to use the Peloton bike there (and beat traffic). I had a PT appointment at 9:30, so I showered and put on a clean t-shirts and shorts for that. (After my appointment I changed into a different top and jeans for the rest of the day in the office.) On my way to PT I listened to my favorite class from this year’s AFO line-up—Jon’s Gorillaz walk. Every song is so fun!
Friday: 5 min Core + PT exercises + 45 min Peloton Tread class
Since my physical therapist added Copenhagen planks to my list of exercises, I opted for a shorter Peloton core class to wake up my abs, and then tackled those. I used the metronome feature of my Garmin Fenix on my tread—I don’t think I can pay attention to my cadence on an outdoor run with Scooby—it was hard enough on my own in Boston!
Saturday: 5 min Core + PT exercises + 30 mile Bike ride
There was a hint of fall in the air when we headed out at 10 am—it was such a nice day! I decided to try to keep a cadence of ~90 to align with my target running cadence of 180. It makes sense that I usually ride at a cadence of ~80 and run at a cadence of ~160–it’s all leg turnover, right?
We’ll have to break out the lederhosen kits soon!
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
What’s the longest PT routine you’ve had to endure do?
Ack! I had to look up Copenhagen planks, and they look HARD! So how is everything feeling? It sounds like you had some great runs with no complaints. Bummer that you missed that long run, but it sounds like you made the best of it!
Definitely improving, but still a ways to go. The isometric exercises are telling — they are uncomfortable on my left said and barely require effort on my right — so that’s my recovery yardstick right now.
Boston is such a lovely city, and great for running! Glad you were able to get out and enjoy, despite some initial flight struggles!
Ummm Copenhagen planks look impossible — where do these crazy workouts come from! I love Boston- we lived there for a few years but I haven’t been back in several.
It really is a great city!
Your PT certainly keeps you busy! You even have more exercises on your list than I have! I had to look up the Copenhagen plank. I’ve been looking at that, while I had the boot and couldn’t use my feet for anything but I didn’t have a bench (or similar) to use.
That fun run event certainly sounds like fun and very well organised, something for everyone. It’s good to hear you’re out running – I hope you feel that your PT program is helping you.
Thanks. I do think I’m making progress, but I’ve got a ways to go. It’s only been a few weeks.
I’m sure you had so much fun running in Boston! I have to go visit there, especially after spending time with Michelle this summer in California!

Hah! they probably dream them up for revenge on annoying patients who don’t do their exercises at home!
I miss those conference days when there was a fun run.
So great that you had time to fun in Boston!! I need to visit! That and DC…
I’m glad Boston treated you well – I’m so sorry I couldn’t meet you on Sunday. Definitely have to make up for it if you head back this way in October!
Nice work with all the PT work – I hope it pays off for you.
Boston is a fun city to run in. I am enjoying the cooler mornings and having the option to start a bit later without dying
I have a good friend that lives in Boston and runs alot. Many great places to run in that city! I loved running the marathon there! Boston will always hold a special place in my heart. I actually prefer Dunkin over Starbucks. Am I weird??? Haha.
Oh, no, I’m the one obsessed with Starbucks!
Glad you had a nice time in Boston, and got in some running while there! Another great rec on Peloton stuff…I’ll be looking for Jon’s Gorillaz walk!
Changing cadence is really hard! And since my runs are run/walk, the cadence is really all over the place. Yes, PT exercises is time consuming, but better to be able to run pain free, right?
The fun run in Boston sounds fun (of courses)!
That’s what I’m telling myself!
At this point in the summer cloudy days sound pretty good. And Boston is pretty with or without the sun. Looks like you had a great training week even in the clouds.
I think I would prefer a cloudy Boston to a hot Boston! Nice job with your runs there!
Those are a lot of PT exercises! I think the only reason he/she makes you do Copenhagen planks is because you were in Copenhagen! Let’s see if there are Boston planks…
She told me they were for my adductors, but you’re probably right! 😉
So sorry for all the gloom. Is that leftover from Hurricane Lee?
You still got to see and do quite a bit. It’s always nice to get to explore a different city. Especially when you’re running.
