Between my business trip at the start of the month, catching covid, and my vacation, I feel like I skipped most of February. Since I can’t have a do-over, I am lighting a fire to finish February strong.
Have I shared this lovely scene from my office holiday party?
Lighting a Fire To Finish February Strong
The first match I lit this week was getting back to the full schedule of the Matt Wilpers training plan. I did last week’s hill workout on Sunday, and then this week’s endurance run, progressive run, and long run—adjusting to my current “long” run distance. I also did my 700th Peloton running class.
The other match I lit was to start Jermaine Johnson’s 3-day split strength program. (This is the one Deborah reviewed a few weeks ago.) The first day—upper body with a focus on “push” moves had me working to failure in every set!
I’m taking the third class later today.
To make sure I don’t burn out, I also got back to yoga. Yes, it’s hot yoga, but it feels so good.
Weekly Run Down
Sunday: 5.0 Tread Miles
For the second week in a row I did the “Wednesday” workout from the Matt Wilpers training program on Sunday. This was a hill workout that was no joke.
I reminded myself of the mantra You have to endure to adapt and imagined the hilly first half of the Parkway Classic 10 Miler to get through the longest intervals.
After an early lunch we got on our bikes to enjoy spring-like temperatures in the upper 50s.
Monday (President’s Day): Core + 10 min G&L + 6.25 Scooby Miles
I reviewed all the Peloton 10 min glutes and legs workouts I’ve bookmarked and figured out which ones would be good for a running warm-up. Monday I chose Robin’s from 12/6/22.
I really love this Scooby Doo top
Tuesday: Corepower Yoga
I had not missed that 4:40 am alarm, but I had missed my Corepower yoga class, and it felt good to be back on the mat.
Wednesday: JJ’s 30 min UB Push + core + 30 min Peloton bike
I was at my office gym, so I started with the strength class in case someone else came in to use the free weights—I needed the 20s, 15s, and 10s! After a short core class I hopped on the bike for a 20 min Hannah Frankson ride and then added a 10 min Lanebreak ride since I can’t do those at home—this one had a great playlist!
Thursday: Core + 10 min G&L + 4.75 Tread miles
I had to go to the office, but I didn’t want to do this 45 min progressive run on the gym tread (it’s so warm), so I squeezed it in at home and then braved rush hour traffic. I warmed up with Jess Sims’ 10/22/19 G&L class—I realized I should do the older classes first before they get purged.
Friday: Core + 3.25 Scooby Miles + JJ’s 30 min UB Pull
It was in the low 60s so I had to take Scooby for a run, although if I’d known how windy it was I might not have been so tempted! Then I did the next class in JJ’s program, which is an upper body class focused on “pull” moves. This was much “easier” for me, meaning I could finish each set. I don’t think I’m ready for heavier weights, though.
Love seeing the sunrise at the end of a weekday run!
Saturday: Core + 8.15 Scooby Miles
After wearing a t-shirt and shorts yesterday, it was back to the 30s for my long run. At least the wind was gone.
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
Do you have any remaining goals for February?
Wow, what a powerful week you had! You must be feeling better. I love that photo of Scooby with the sunrise. Yes, it’s nice to see the light of day happening earlier, isn’t it?
Congrats on hitting 700 Peloton running classes. Your dedication is admirable!
It looks like you are back on track.
What an active week.
700 runs. Whoa. And congrats.
As you know my February went to hell.
Looking ahead to May.
Nice “heated” week of fitness! That Split program with JJ is thorough, and (as I’ve mentioned) the push class is a killer! I can’t decide if I’m diving back in this week or waiting another week to resume it. I’m jealous of your outdoor cycling!!
Yes, I would say you’ve lit that fire! Sounds like you had a great week all around. I’m intrigued by that 3 day split program (too bad I quit Peloton!) It sounds great. I also love that Scooby Doo top.
You can always sign up again. 🙂
Great week! Glad you’re feeling better.
I really liked JJ’s Split and want to do it again but there are so many strength classes on my bookmarked list. And, you’re right about getting those older classes done before another purge.
At least with the split programs once you’ve done the classes it is easy to mix and match with others.
Looks like you’re back on track and going strong. Nicely done!
Coming back strong! You know I love that JJ program and most likely will do again. Congrats on 700 running classes! That hill workout was no joke at all. Glad you are feeling better!
I don’t mind the cold so much when the wind is AWOL! I’m sure Scooby appreciated the run.
My Feb was on the light side, but still a whole lot better than Jan! Onwards & upwards, right?
What a “firey” week of activity for you! Well done! I am loving growing daylight and the increasing intensity of the sun. You’ve really had some nice weather there!
Outdoor riding is so much better than indoors! Nice job!
I love that mantra, I wish I had it in my head this morning at CrossFit. Have a good week ahead!
That looks like a very good week! Isn’t it a nice feeling to push yourself to failure during strength training? The hill run looks very tough too!
My only remaining goal for February is to finish a challenging work project. And perhaps do better with the chest press in the gym tomorrow than I did last week. 🙂
What a great attitude and great way to finish the month.
Honestly, I just need to move on to March. It’s time.
Tell Scooby I said hi.
We are really getting teased with these 50+ degree days, and then sinking back down to fleece tight running days! Spring will be here soon! Hope your March will be better than February was for you.
