Runfessing With Gratitude

It’s the last Friday of the month–the day we gather at Marcia’s runfessional and cleanse our souls soles before we head into the next month—which in this case will be the last month of 2022! It’s also Black Friday, but before I do any shopping I’m runfessing with gratitude.

First, I want to thank Marcia for hosting the runfessions link-up. While most confessions are kept confidential, it’s fun to see what others have to runfess!

Runfessing With Gratitude

I runfess with gratitude that I am running enough to have runfessions to share. I runfess I made the same runfession in last year’s Black Friday runfessions post, but at least I’ve mostly been dealing with different issues this year?

I runfess that while my hip issue is getting better, it does not respond well to speed work on the tread. So why I am still tempted to do it?

runfess that almost as soon as I nudged my “long run” mileage past 6 miles, I signed up for the Jingle All The Way 15K on December 11. I runfess I sort of did it to carve out some “me” time from work—I have a meeting at my office that (Sunday) afternoon. I plan to go straight from the race to my office, shower at my office gym, and refuel at Starbucks.

I runfess that I have been doing speedwork to target a completely unrealistic and unjustified pace. I have been lecturing myself to just let go and be grateful I can run 15K at any pace.

Speaking of which, I runfess I was worrying that I wouldn’t be able to fit it a 10 mile long run rbefore the race, but releived when I remembered a 15K is “only” 9.3 miles. I covered almost that distance last weekend.

I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you how grateful I am for all the fantastic friends I have made through running. Even though I’ve only met a few of you in real life, I runfess I feel closer to you than some of my “real” friends.

I’m also thankful for the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida but I runfess I often don’t follow the “five” format.  😉

Deborah and I will be hosting the December Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday, December 2nd, and keep the coffee brewing.

Do you have any grateful runfessions?

I’m always reluctant as well about NSAIDS. Glad you’re following the protocol this time and I hope it pays off. Enjoy the rest of this long weekend!

  2. I’m thankful that I am healthy enough to run and that my blogging friends are too.

  3. Catrina says:

I remember that feeling when I returned to running after my Achilles episode.
You run, you anxiously wait for the pain to happen… but it doesn’t!! That’s so liberating.

That would be my no. 1 on my “Thankful List”, too!

  4. deborahbrooks14 says:

I also feel closer to many of you and I love having you all in my life! We need a real date soon. Glad that running is going better for you!

  5. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

I’m so glad the a=Achilles is feeling better! As you know, I’ve had two substantial rally-backs, and I take nothing for granted. Every run is such a blessing 😉 And, every running friend is a gift <3

  6. I’m happy for you that you’re back to consistent running! I hope the miloxican helps to continue to improve the inflammation.

And yes yay for running friends! I am hopeful that 2022 will bring more meet-ups…how is it that after all of these years we haven’t met in person?!?

  7. jenny says:

Yes! Yes! I’m thankful for running friends, and being able to run. My foot isn’t quite as far along in the healing process as your achilles, but I am running! We’re so lucky.

  8. I am grateful I could be there for my mom yesterday (more on that when we meet over coffee/tea), although it was a tiring day. Especially grateful that the weather was much better yesterday than today!

I don’t ever take NSAIDs for running injuries. Not yet, anyway. I might use things like deep blue rub & I do have an ankle sleeve much like the one you show — I use it post run, not during though.

I am sorry about the Richmond Half! I guess it just wasn’t meant to be, but it still has to be a bummer. Glad that running is definitely looking up for you, Coco!

    • Coco says:

Through my saga I’ve learned to recognize when what I”m feeling is inflammation, so I guess that makes me more inclined to take the NSAID. I hadn’t really made the connection that pain = inflammation before.

  9. Wendy says:

I think I told you that I got Meloxicam from my rheumatologist but didn’t find it all that helpful. My CBD salve works way better!

    • Coco says:

My husband would be afraid to come near me if I used that — he’s subject to random drug testing and isn’t confident CBD wouldn’t mess it up ….

      • Denise says:

Most CBD salves only have trace amounts of THC in them. I highly doubt your use of it would effect him in any way. Just saying to maybe ease his mind.

  10. Denise says:

It’s so good that you can run pain free. Achilles injuries take so long to heal.

  11. I generally don’t take any medications, but I did get a prescription NSAID back in July when my knee was mysteriously swollen and painful and it worked wonders in just a few days.

  12. I love that you now have a cross button at your neighborhood intersection.
Traffic is the biggest reason I often trail run instead of running in town, although I do love running in town too. Have a great week!
