My Tribute To RBG

I’m not going to sugarcoat it. The passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg has hit me hard. She was an amazing woman and fierce champion of equal treatment and equal justice for all.

My Tribute To Ruth Bader Ginsburg

As a female lawyer, I’ve always been a fan girl. Like me, she was married and had a child when she started law school. Like me, she graduated at the top of her law school class. Of course, that’s about where the similarities end. She did so much more with her “failure” of not being hired by any law firm than I have done with the many opportunities she helped paved the way for. She became the first tenured female professor at Columbia Law School. She founded the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. Before she became a judge, she took on, argued to the Supreme Court, and won a series of cases challenging laws that treated men and women differently. In high school, I was taught that the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment applies to women; in law school, I learned that the legal battles she fought helped make it that way. As a Supreme Court Justice herself, she wrote biting dissents when the majority decision undermined the rights of women and minorities.

Weekly Run Down

My heart isn’t in my weekly workout recap, but since RGB was known for her dedication to her own fitness routine, I will share it as part of my tribute to her.

Monday: 60 min Peloton Strength Workouts
Never miss a Monday, but my legs needed a break after running and cycling over the weekend so I took Scooby for a walk and focused on strength workouts.

Peloton workouts

Tuesday: 6.5 Scooby Miles + 10 min Peloton Core Workout
A taste of fall weather meant I couldn’t resist taking Scooby for a longer run–made possible by my still-working-from-home status. 🙂

Wednesday: 3.5 Scooby Miles + 30 min Peloton Strength Workouts

I logged my 200th Peloton strength workout!

Thursday:  3.5 Scooby Miles + 40 min Peloton Strength Workouts

Friday: 60 min Peloton Bootcamp (3 treadmill miles)
I opted for my favorite mood-lifting bootcamp–with Jess Sims and Chase Tucker, filmed shortly before the pandemic shutdown.

I fought off running with a heavy heart, and focused on celebrating all I admire about Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Sunday: 3.2 Scooby Miles + 22 Miles Cycling
With temperatures hovering around 50F, it was perfect weather for the long-sleeve hoodie from the Scooby Doo virtual run. I hadn’t even tried it on before, but it fits perfectly and felt great.

By the time I’d gone to church (still outside–brr!), the grocery store, and had lunch, it was nice enough to go for a bike ride, especially when my husband gave me this new long-sleeve cycling jersey as an early anniversary gift.

Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up. It’s always great for motivation and encouragement, but now it’s especially important for distance socializing. We may be physically apart, but we are in this together!

How are you taking care of yourself this week?

RBG’s passing hit me like a punch to the gut. What a remarkable woman and profound loss for all of us. We rewatched RBG last night. It’s been quite a year. Sigh.

    • Coco says:

Her contributions and the impact her work had on the rights we take for granted are astounding, and on top of that she was a kind person.

  2. Michelle D. says:

RBG’s passing has really left me stunned – she was truly an amazing woman! Every time I think 2020 can’t hit us with anything else, it seems to find a way 🙁

  3. I loved the movie about her and learned so much about her early career. An amazing woman. Congrats on your 200th ST class! Have a great week

  4. RBG’s passing was a shock, and such a sad piece of news to hear. Sounds like she was a “virtual” mentor of sorts to you. As usual, I love all your daily fitness (and all your Scooby miles). Hmmm…I don’t yet own a long-sleeved bike jersey. That may be my next purchase. Hugs to you <3

    • Coco says:

You won’t want to give up your bike rides even when you can run again. I’ve made do with running tops, but it’s nice to have the big pockets in the back. 😉

  5. Birchwood Pie says:

I bet that RBG never missed a Monday! Congrats on your 200th Peleton.

  6. Lisa says:

What a nice tribute. This was shocking news and I really can’t believe all that has happened this year! Hope you have a good week!

  7. Wendy says:

After everything else we’ve endured, the news of Ruth’s passing was devastating. I mean really. Like Birchwood pie said, I bet she never missed a Monday. What gift she was!

    • Coco says:

I’m sure she held on as long as she could. 😉 She knew what an impact her passing would have — another burden she bore for the rest of us!

  8. therightfits says:

What a beautiful and very cool tribute. She was incredible. We named our puppy Ruth after her. Our Ruth is RGB- close! I watched both movies about her on the same flight once and was so inspired. And YES- she was a fitness lover just like us! Thanks for sharing.

  9. Darlene says:

I am soooo upset about RBG’s passing. I can’t even write about it.

I just started biking today and I think I like it. But that’s because I am cutting back on running due to my back. How do you fit it all in?

It’s already been in the 30’s.

I’m worried that I won’t be out there so much when It gets colder. And darker after w ork.

  10. Catrina says:

Being married and having a child in law school and still graduating at the top of your class – that is amazing, Coco!
Your discipline and focus shines through in the diligent way you approach your workouts.

Thank you for the summary on RBG and the links. I will definitely have a look at these.

  11. RBG was indeed an amazing woman (as are you, btw). I never did get to see On the Basis of Sex in the theaters, so will have to sweet talk Mr. Judy into renting it. I feel he should watch it too. 🙂

Love the cycling jersey your husband gave you! So pretty. And the hoodie is pretty cool, too. 🙂

  12. Jenny says:

Thank you so much for this. Unfortunately it was impossible to hear the news without immediately thinking about what it means politically. It’s good to have a pause and truly appreciate the amazing person she was.

  13. kookyrunner says:

Absolutely love your tribute to RBG. I was eating dinner when the news broke and I immediately lost my appetite. My only hope is that her final wish is granted and that her seat is not filled by the current administration.

  14. runswithpugs says:

I can’t even deal with RBG’s passing. I’ve been off-kilter since I read the news. It’s a devastating blow in so many ways, and I just don’t know how we are going to move forward in a manner to truly honor her.

  15. I am also sad of RBG’s passing. I couldn’t even write anything about her in my post, just posted one of her quotes. I love what you wrote about her here. I have requested both the move and the book from my library. Looking forward to them!

Another week of great workouts! Congrats on your 200th strength class!!
