We’ve had quite an unusual spring–and I’m not even referring to the coronavirus. Our winter was so mild, crocuses and tulips started blooming in February. By the end of March, our dogwoods were in full bloom. We had more than the usual amount of April showers, but now we get to enjoy all those May flowers.
This shocking pink always brightens my day.
Enjoying May Flowers With Scooby
Now that I’m hitting the snooze button more it’s getting light earlier, I see more flowers on my runs with Scooby. I do not have a green thumb, so my gardening is limited to purchasing containers of blooming flowers at Home Depot–and then trying to remember to water them. I am so glad my neighbors have better gardening skills and plant flowers where I can enjoy their beauty.
I love how this flower just had to be seen.
These fading irises still brightened a rainy morning.
This neighbor’s yard has all the colors.
Weekly Run Down
This week the weather went from I-don’t-want-to-deal-with-running-in-the-cold last Saturday to I-don’t-want-to-deal-with-running-in-the-heat this Saturday. Objectively, last Saturday’s low 30s wasn’t too cold to run, and this Saturday’s upper 60s wasn’t too warm, I’ve just been spoiled by the perfect running weather (in the 40s and 50s) we’ve had for the past few weeks. All my runs were in broad daylight, and I got some great pictures of Scooby.
Monday: Strength Workout + Orange Theory At Home Workout
I started the day with a light strength workout focusing on my PT exercises. Later, I did not miss the Orange Theory At Home Workout on Zoom with Coach John. I even found our jump rope for the cardio segments, although my lack of coordination cuts down on the intensity!
That’s the post-workout stretches playing on my iPad.
Tuesday: 60 min Peloton Bootcamp
I am loving Jess Sims’ Peloton bootcamp programs, and chose a 60 minute full body program, which included a fair amount of core work as well.
Wednesday: 5.5 Scooby Miles
I talked myself out the door with the idea of a short run, but once we got going I opted for our full 5-ish mile route. Note that it was still cool enough for long sleeves.
Not the best picture of me, but I love Scooby’s expression!
Thursday: Orangetheory At Home Workout
I did an upperbody + core focused Orangetheory At Home workout from earlier in the week–you can find all the workouts on their YouTube channel. The programs and cuing have gotten a lot better over these past few weeks.
I added 5 minutes of planking afterwards–
90 sec forearm/60 sec each side/90 sec forearm.
Friday: 5.25 Scooby Miles
I had stepped aside to give room to an approaching runner, and decided to turn that social distancing into a photo session. I think there was a squirrel behind me that captured Scooby’s attention!
Saturday: 25 mile bike ride
After a successful trip to the grocery store (TP! hand sanitizer!), we went for a bike ride on what is becoming our usual route on quiet neighborhood streets. The park is too busy these days, but we still ride by and do some loops in its neighborhood. Oh, did I mention is was 82F?!
The park is closed to cars, but there’s a side entrance for pedestrians/cyclists.
Sunday : 8.25 Scooby Miles
It was definitely cooler this morning, but still warmer than we both are used to. Scooby needed a few more breaks than usual, and I didn’t mind since my legs were still tired after yesterday’s bike ride.
There is #nofilter on those bright roses!
Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up. It’s always great for motivation and encouragement, but now it’s especially important for distance socializing. We may be physically apart, but we are in this together!
Are you enjoying May flowers where you are?
Love your flower pics! And that Wednesday photo of Scooby is priceless, haha!
Your bike ride reminds me that I should get on the bike this coming week, too.
Have a great start in the new work week!
Scooby can be so photogenic when he looks at the camera — or at a squirrel behind it!
Awww, Scooby is getting lots of runs in with his mama this week! Beautiful flowers, too! I’m trying to get up the courage to brave the garden dept at Home Depot!
I went on a weekday and was one of three people in the whole space ….
I love all the Scooby photos! I think I’m turning the linkup into a dog photo linkup, LOL!
The weather this week just made me really, really, REALLY happy. Seriously. I feel so much better when I can walk around in a skirt all day!
Scooby is a huge source of motivation these days. He’s so happy running it makes up for doing the same route.
It’s so cold in the basement where I’m working I still have to dress for winter even when it’s warm outside.
Our first floor is so much cooler than our second that I’m surprised it doesn’t rain in between floors!
All of the flowers are in full bloom. I am trying to find new walking and running routes to check them out. I sitll have not ventured out on my bike it just seems so crowded. I miss it though. The Peloton boot camps are really hard!
I think the trail is too crowded — are there any neighborhood roads you’d feel safe on? Of course, your ‘hood has all those hills!
Beautiful flowers in your neck of the woods! I tried to go to Home Depot last Friday but there was a long, social distance line waiting to get in that I did not feel like waiting in. It’s done nothing but pour buckets all day today so its just as well since I doubt I’d have gotten the planting done. Great job on those workouts!
I guess I got lucky with my timing! We had a sunny Saturday and grey but mostly dry Sunday.
I’m right there with you on the weather, minus the “few weeks of perfect weather” part. By now I should be well used to running in 30-ish degrees but it was just too much this week. And oof 65 was too hot on Friday. My goal for next week is to get out there earlier to beat the heat.
Looks like this week we’re back to the 50s, so as long as the rain holds off it could be good running weather.
Such beautiful flowers! I got the last of my potted flowers done yesterday (before the ZOOM call), and I was tired! All that squatting and lifting (post-run) was almost too much…even my shower didn’t revive me much. But I slept like a rock last night LOL Great week of workouts…excellent job!
Hah! A day of gardening does make for a good night’s sleep! I bet your fllowers look lovely.
I love all the Scooby and flower photos! 🙂 I’m also happy that the sun is out earlier now. I think I’l take advantage of this and try to do more outdoor runs when I can during the week.
I didn’t do any OTF at home workouts this week. It’s hard to balance out those workouts with the Peloton strength workout because I feel like they are both good!
I don’t like the floor-based cardio of the OTF workouts — too much jumping on my basement floor makes my calves angry and that can make my PF flare up — but I can modify or do something else for a few minutes.
The flowers are lovely! They definitely make me smile too. There were these lovely pink trees along my running route but now the flowers have fallen off and the trees will remain green from the rest of the year.
Aw Scooby, so cute!! I bought flowers to put in some planters. I’m like you – my biggest challenge is to remember to water them! But I almost killed them trying to put them in the planters. It was quite stressful!! 60 mins of bootcamp… well done!!
Scooby is so photogenic! What a handsome boy!
I’m so glad you got to see all the pretty flowers. I wish we had more varieties around here.
You got some fun pictures of Scooby! I’m jealous of all the blooms – we’re still a little behind up here.
I haven’t checked out the OTF workouts in a while – good to hear they’ve improved. I want to give one of Peloton’s bootcamps a go!
I love seeing all the flowers that are out now- especially now that it is light out earlier. The weather was crazy last week but I was so happy to see those warmer temperatures. Now if only we could get some more sun this week…
Your flowers are beautiful! Great job with your workouts! Love the photo of Scooby!
Great work! I’m also enjoying all of the flowers in bloom. I never know what my husband plants in the garden so every few weeks it’s a new surprise and the colors are popping!
It looks like Scooby is having a great time out on the road!
Beautiful flowers!! We’ve had a lot of rain here so I’ve seen lots of flowers around my neighborhood too. Looks like Scooby also enjoys you taking pictures of him.
I feel you on the flowers. We have roses here, which is way early, But I’m not complaining. Tulips seemed to linger longer too
Yay on the squirrel assist for Scooby pose
