Celebrating Mother’s Day At Home

Happy Mother’s Day! I have to say, as hard as it is to be away from my kids during these challenging times, I can only imagine how hard it is to be staying safer at home with kids of any age. So, to all of you with babes in arms, toddlers in tow, children under foot, or older kids longing to see their friends, I am in awe of you.

Celebrating Mother’s Day At Home

Like most of the rest of you, I will be celebrating Mother’s Day at home. The plan is for my Mom to come over and my son and his fiancee to cook us dinner. We hoped to be able to eat outside where we have plenty of room on the patio, but Mother Nature brought us a cold front that may force us inside. Maybe we’ll set up a “Mom’s Table” to keep her a safe distance apart. 🙂

Sweet Fleur cookies

Yes, those are real flowers!

Speaking of being apart, my daughter sent me these gorgeous cookies from a vegan bakery in Denver, Sweet Fleur. Not only are they works of art, they are delicious–and I’m saying that as a person who usually bakes with 100% real butter. It’s hard not being able to even plan a trip to visit my daughter, but at least we can see each other on Facetime.

Weekly Run Down

I did a lot of Peloton workouts and missed the Orangetheory At Home workout led by my second-favorite coach. I had it in my mind that he was coaching on Tuesday afternoon, but when I double-checked the time mid-day Tuesday, I saw that he had coached on Monday. I know I’m not the only one mixing up the days these days, but it was still annoying!

Monday: 60 min Peloton Bootcamp
I loved the 45 min Peloton bootcamp program I tried last week, so I upped the ante and tried the Jess Sims 60 min Hip Hop Bootcamp Kim did last week. This one had three treadmill segments and three strength segments (full body, body weight).

Tuesday: 5.5 Scooby Miles
It’s getting harder to catch the sunrise these days, but this morning I was treated to this lovely sight.

Wednesday:  Peloton strength workouts
For once I didn’t hit the snooze button too many times, so I opted for a Chase Tucker triple threat. I’m amazed at how effective these short workouts are.

Thursday:  4.6 Scooby Miles
I headed out for my short (3 mile) neighborhood loop, but ended up behind a woman running the same route, so I veered off for a different loop that is a bit longer. We were never closer than 6 feet apart (more like 12 or 18), but I just didn’t want to be that close to someone else.

Friday: 60 min Peloton Bootcamp
I am loving the Peloton bootcamp format, and also love that there are so many options. This one alternated treadmill and weight three times, with a focus on arms + shoulders, but enough core moves to check that box as well.

“just one more rep!”

Saturday: Corepower Yoga Triple Play
I was stressed about getting to the grocery store and not in the mood to deal with temperatures in the 30s–the coldest May morning in 50 years!–so I skipped my Saturday morning long run. After lunch I was ready to spend some time on my mat, and did two short C2 programs and one short Yoga Sculpt program.

Sunday: 8.75 Scooby Miles
It was still cold, but at least the wind had died down. I dressed in spring colors for Mother’s Day and wore some new Skirt Sports tights I thought I wouldn’t be wearing until next season.

Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up. It’s always great for motivation and encouragement, but now it’s especially important for distance socializing. We may be physically apart, but we are in this together!

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day?

Those cookies! They are SO pretty, they should not be eaten!
Nice that you’re able to have your Mum round – I bet she’s thrilled. We will be having a Zoom happy hour with our Mum, she’s looking forward to that.

  2. Marcia says:

I wonder if those cookies are made with palm shortening?? I became familiar with it when I went through the AIP protocol and I love it!
We’d planned to visit my mom from a distance but it’s cold and pouring here today so we’ll likely stay put. Happy Mother’s Day!

  3. Cari says:

    Those flower cookies are amazing.
Hope you’re able to do a socially distant dinner. This weather is bananas. Why do we need so many layers in May?
Days are odd. Especially as I saw a USPS truck today and was pretty sure it was Sunday.

  4. I see you found Chase’s ST classes. Those are really challenging and I love them. Super beautiful cookies! Hope you have a fantastic Mother’s Day

  5. Wendy says:

Those flower cookies are beautiful! We used to cook with nasturtiums–we grew them in our garden–and they really made the food and salads beautiful. I have a recipe for lavendar cookies but I’ve never made them.

  6. kookyrunner says:

I love that you are enjoying the Peloton workouts, especially the boot camp classes! I love the vegan flower cookies that your daughter sent you – they are beautiful and look delicious!

Happy Mother’s Day and I hope that you enjoy a great day at home with family!

    • Coco says:

Thanks! My son came over early — I guess he’s so desperate to get out of the house he’ll even spend more time with his mom. 😉

  7. It’s still windy here, but far less than yesterday & warmer. I’ve only done a few short Peloton workouts so far.

    Those cookies look amazing!

  8. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Lots of great workouts this week (but that’s never a surprise). I love all the filtered pics, too 😉 Hope it’s been a great Mother’s Day for you!

  9. Birchwood Pie says:

Happy Mother’s Day! The weather was on the brutal side this weekend, hopefully warmer times are ahead. Love the cookies.

  10. Lisa says:

Great week of workouts! We haven’t been able to see my mom (or dad) because there’s no way for them to actually be around my son and be able to stay 6 feet apart. If it weren’t for both my dad and my husband still going into work we would probably be seeing them by now.
The weather on Saturday morning was ridiculous! I cant believe we are still dealing with freezing temperatures in May.

    • Coco says:

I can imagine that grandparents would not be able to resist their grand babies! My Mom had a no-hug policy but I’m sure we still got too close to be 100% safe if any of the rest of us got exposed on our grocery trips.

  11. Darlene says:

Yes Mother’s Day was a bust. And my b-day on Saturday – SNOW!! wth?

Were the cookies as delicious as thy looked?

Hope the freezing temps are over so I can plant some flowers.

  12. Chaitali says:

Those cookies are beautiful! And sounds like you’re enjoying the peloton boot camps :). I haven’t tried any of those yet but I’m hoping to give them a try soon.

    • Coco says:

If you’re picky like I am, they have the format/pattern listed under the playlist, so you can choose one with shorter or longer blocks.

  13. I went to RiteAid on Saturday and was amazed with all of the traffic. Home Depot parking lot was packed, as was the grocery store. It freaked me out just driving in it. I’m not so concerned with getting sick, but I’m so used to having some free space that it really stressed me out. That will teach me to wait until the last minute to buy a Mother’s Day gift!! Those cookies look delish! I hope you had a great Mother’s Day 🙂

    • Coco says:

I skipped out on work Friday afternoon so I wouldn’t have to go to Home Depot on the weekend. It was busy enough then!

  14. Chase’s strength training workouts are quickly becoming some of my favorites on Peloton.

Those cookies look amazing. Hope you had a great Mother’s Day!

    • Coco says:

I really like most of the Peloton classes, but CT is one of my favorites. I hope you had a good Mother’s Day too!

  15. runswithpugs says:

Hugs to you. We did get to see my mom on Saturday (my birthday) but it wasn’t the same.

Those cookies are beautiful! Almost too pretty to eat!

We had a chill Mother’s Day. Mr PugRunner hasn’t been feeling great (sinuses), so that’s made everything a little less fun. Hopefully he’s better soon.

    • Coco says:

My allergies haven’t been too bad, but I am sneezing a lot — maybe we need to dust? 😉 I hope he’s feeling better!

  16. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

The cookies look so delicious! Hopefully you’ll be able to reunite with your daughter not too far in the future!

Great workouts! Peloton seems to have it all! I don’t feel comfortable being around other runners either so I would have done the same thing!
