I finally got to put my toes in the sand and enjoy a few days of fun at Rehoboth Beach. It had been three years, but one thing that makes going to Rehoboth Beach so relaxing is that so much stays the same from year to year.
The beach, the boardwalk–even the benches–make it Rehoboth.
Fun at Rehoboth Beach
While the beach is the main draw at Rehoboth Beach, I’ve come to look forward to cycling on the bike trails between Rehoboth and Lewes. This year we also got to explore a new rail-to-trail that is being built between Lewes and Georgetown.
We spent the first day enjoying the beach–and hiding from the sun under a beach umbrella!
When we went to the bike shop to pick up a trail map, the short sleeve version of the Biker Chick top I’d bought on my last visit was on sale for 50% off. How could I resist?
It was so relaxing sitting under the umbrella, reading, lounging and napping. Every day we saw dolphins frolicking in the waves. I dove in every few hours to cool off, but the ocean was too quiet for body surfing.
It didn’t take me long to finish the book I brought, City of Thieves by David Benioff. I checked out the “Book Box” just off the board walk, and traded it in for another good novel, A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki.
We also went to our favorite restaurants
and played rooftop putt-putt golf–a bargain at $5 for 18 holes.
We packed in a lot of fun in our four days at Rehoboth Beach!
Weekly Run Down
I did more cycling this week than I’ve done it a while–two rides at the beach and then the Pennsylvania Dutch Farm To Fork Fondo. I also got out for one run at the beach and went to yoga on our morning at home.
Monday: 20 mile bike ride
For our first bike ride at Rehoboth Beach, we took the Gordon Pond Trail up to Cape Henlopen State Park, rode the bike trail over to Lewes, and took the Junction & Breakwater Trail back to Rehoboth.
Gordon Pond
Tuesday: 4 mile run
It was warm and humid, but the ocean breeze made it tolerable and almost pleasant. I chased the sunrise from the front of my hotel, along the boardwalk, and then through neighborhoods around the lake, and back.
Wednesday: 27.75 mile bike ride
For our other bike ride at Rehoboth Beach, we did an out-back combination of the Junction & Breakwater Trail and the new Georgetown to Lewes trail, which is only completed from Lewes 6 miles towards Georgetown.
The Georgetown/Lewes Trail is the very straight line on my Garmin map. It’s a flat, smooth trail that cuts through rural back yards.
We rode pretty close to some cows.
We took this photo on the Junction & Breakwater trail,
which is a twisty crushed gravel trail that
cuts through neighborhoods, woods, and swamp.
Thursday: Corepower Yoga
I had to interrupt my vacation for a day in the office, but that also meant I was home for Ann’s CPY2 class. The peak pose was Baby Grasshopper, which I could do one one side but not the other.
Friday: Strength Workout
I waited too long to sign up for an OTF class, so I did a strength workout at home before driving up to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for the Farm To Fork Fondo.
Saturday: 47.3 mile Pennsylvania Dutch Farm To Fork Fondo
We had another amazing ride with the Pennsylvania Dutch Farm To Fork Fondo. I’m working on a full recap to share separately, but couldn’t wait to share my annual whoopie pie photo. 😉
Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up
–join in for motivation and encouragement!
Do you a free little library in your neighborhood?
So glad that you were able to get out of town for a few days and relax! I love all of the pictures that you took as well.
That biker chic top is too cute! There’s no way you couldn’t get that, especially at 50% off.
Thanks! I really needed a break!
Sounds like a really nice few days away. It’s fun to bike in new places. I am hoping to get a long ride in this weekend in Napa. Congrats on the Fondo look forward to reading all about it
Riding in Napa would be great — have a great time!
All those photos looking amazing. Looks like you had a great vacation (despite the work pitstop).I would love to get my toes in some sand . . . not to mention the Whoopie Pie . . .
Not the toes in the whoopie pie, I’m sure. 🙂 My vacation was in jeopardy for a few days, so I was so glad to be able to get away at all.
I’ll bet you were glad to get away! I’ve had a few times that vacations were in jeopardy — never fun. Actually the only one I think we’ve ever had to delay was the one that was scheduled for right after 9/11.
Beach days are always good days. Looks like you had a blast! And a whoopie pie to top it off? Perfect!
It was a pretty perfect week!
That biker chick top is so cute. Love it! I have to admit, I am kind of jealous of your trip to Rehoboth Beach. It’s where we used to go as a family when I was a kid and I have always loved that beach. Looks like you had a really great beach vacation.
It’s the beach I went to as a kid, and where we took our kids. It’s so close and easy, and so nice. There’s enough to do without it being overwhelming.
What a great trip! I LOVE the biker chick top…totally appropriate 😉 We took our bikes on our weekend adventure to the lake, but I never had time to ride mine. Our hosts kept us on the go with a couple of hours on the lake (it was SOO cold and windy on the boat LOL) and wonderful meals at a couple great restaurants.
It sounds like you had a lot of fun!
It sounds like you had a great time at the beach! I’m looking forward to reading your Pennsylvania Dutch Farm To Fork Fondo recap. Riding in something like that is still on our bucket list.
Have a great week!
You could join us on the Shenandoah one in a few weeks!
We’ll be in NC for the Marine Corps Half that weekend…
What a fun beach getaway! I love that they have a book box. Your sunrise bike ride looks amazing and so peaceful. That biker chick was a must-buy. So cute!
The book box was a great find! I’m glad I checked it out. The Gordon Pond Trail is lovely!
Love to see that big smile on your face! Glad you were able to combine a trip to the beach with your favorite bike ride!
My vacation was a long time coming!
Wow, sounds like a great week given you had the beach and the farm to fork fondo both going on 🙂
I know! It’s like I packed all my summer fun into one week.
What a fun week at the beach!!! I’m running the Rehoboth half marathon in december. I love the city’s food and beer scene. Can’t wait.
Your vacation sounds like so much fun!
It looks like you had a great get-away! I’m so glad! The Biker Chick shirt was too cute to pass up!
It was everything I needed it to be.
Oh, I’m so glad you got to have this enjoyable getaway! I’ve never been to Rehoboth Beach, but I’ve heard such incredible things! I love that you were able to relax and exercise all at once.Balance, right?
It’s a great beach! Still has an old-fashioned amusement place (Funland), the roof-top putt-putt and lots of boardwalk fries, ice cream and taffy shops!
Looks like a great little getaway! How can you go wrong with a beach trip, right? Great workouts too!
We did have an interesting storm on Tuesday, but when your goal is to relax it’s not so bad reading your book on your hotel room balcony either. 😉
I’ve heard great things about Rehoboth Beach. I was planning to run the half marathon but couldn’t make it fit in my schedule. Looks like a fun beach getaway!
Sounds like such a fun time away! I love biking and running in new places! Looking forward to reading about the Fondo!
Your new top is super cute and super you!
Sounds like a lovely few days at the beach mixed with some great workouts!
That whoopie pie looks delicious!
It looks like Rehoboth has some great spots for running and biking! I havent been there since I went for senior week in college…there was no working out that week lol! Great job getting in all of those workouts even while traveling!
That Biker Chick shirt is awesome
Something about the beachside book exchanges. I hit all of Belmar’s Little Free Libraries this summer, and since I BookCross I got a notification when someone picked up one of mine
