How is it already September?! At least we have a three-day weekend to get used to the idea. Deborah and I are glad you took the time to stop by for coffee before you head off for a few more hours at the pool or a final trip to the beach. Help us make it more like a real coffee date by stopping by and commenting on other blogs in the link up.
Check out these tips for making the most out of link-ups.

Yellowstone Stories For
The Labor Day Weekend Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would want to tell you about one more hike we took in Yellowstone National Park–to Yellowstone’s Natural Bridge.
You can’t walk across the bridge anymore–an earthquake a few years ago left it too unstable–but you can cross behind it and enjoy the views.
How would you like to cross that on a horse-drawn carriage?
If we were having coffee, I would ask if you heard about/saw the video of the man taunting the bison at Yellowstone? (I kept a respectful distance for my Bison photo bonanza!) He was sentenced to 130 days in jail– 60 days for harassing wildlife, 60 days for interfering with law enforcement and 10 days for disorderly conduct. Our guide warned us that the National Park Service takes their wildlife protection laws seriously (sadly, they have to).
The lawyer in me was intrigued to learn that Yellowstone is the only National Park with it’s own federal courthouse–The Justice Center at Mammoth Hot Springs. I guess that’s where Mr. Reinke will serve his time. He’s also banned from Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks for 5 years.
If we were having coffee, I would ask if you heard about the 10 year-old boy who was attacked by a bear in Yellowstone a week or so ago? It sounds like his family came across a mother bear with a cub, and when the boy ran the mamma bear chased him and knocked him down. Luckily his parents had bear spray and acted quickly to use it. The boy was injured, but not too badly. Pay attention at those ranger lectures, folks!
If we were having coffee, I would have to admit that even though we had an epic vacation in Yellowstone, I’m still bummed that we haven’t made it to the beach. I optimistically downloaded some beach cycling routes to my Elemnt Bolt. I guess a quick getaway is still possible, but it’s getting less and less likely.
I’d like to ride here again, please.
What would you tell me over coffee?

I remember going to the Natural Bridge when we went to Yellowstone with our 2 youngest sons years ago. I think we walked across then. I did hear about the man taunting the bison in Yellowstone, but did not watch the video. I remember we saw several people getting way too close to the animals we saw there, and we saw lots of wildlife.
Have a great end of summer. Hope you get to the beach!
Maybe you were there before the earhquake. Or before NPS took additional steps to keep visitors safe!
It’s been fun seeing all your pics from your trip and hearing the stories behind them. That Natural Bridge looks quite amazing!
There are larger ones in other states — now I want to see those too!
I love this recap of your trip! Yellowstone is amazing and I have some great wildlife pictures- and I loved the ranger talks at night- you learned so much!
It really was an amazing trip! I need to figure out what to do with my pictures.
It’s been great seeing all of your pictures of Yellowstone – makes me want to go! I haven’t made it to the beach this summer either. I hope we both can sneak in a trip 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!
We should escape to the beach together!
I have never been to Yellowstone but it looks beautiful. Enjoy the long weekend
It’s worth the trip!
I read about that guy too–he has a history of abusing the national parks. What a tool. I’m glad he got jail time. What is wrong with people? Let’s keep these places nice so everyone can enjoy. I loved all your photos. What an amazing trip!
Did you hear he said it was a “last hurrah” before entering detox? If that’s true I’m not sure he’s ready, but now that’s court-ordered too.
That hike has some amazing views! It would be nerve wrecking to go over that in a covered wagon!
There’s a lot that was a lot scarier back in the day, but those roads sure were dicey!
Your hike looked amazingly beautiful I can’t wait to get out and start exploring here
I bet it’s going to be fantastic!
I need to get to Yellowstone. That looks awesome. I did see that video and I’m glad the man had some consequences. It’s ridiculous to endanger yourself and others for the notoriety.
I only got to the beach to run this year. Kind of sad!!
I think you’d really enjoy a vacation out there!
Amazing he wasn’t banned from all parks, what a tool.
That hike looks amazing.
My only beaches this year have been the local ones, but with the humidity I was glad I took a mountain vacation instead. Hoping to get to COney once more this summer
That’s true. This summer has been a good one for mountain getaways.
So loving your Yellowstone stories. I love to hike so I know I would have a great time there.
There are so many amazing hikes — we only did a few of them!
It’s so fun to read about your Yellowstone trip! I was there about 20 years ago and loved it! But reading this I really want to go back!
I’m sure there’s places you didn’t see. 😉
Yellowstone has such gorgeous views! I had no idea it had its own federal courthouse, haha.
I hope the weather stays nice so you can still get to the beach before it gets cold!!
I’m a little late, obviously. I did see the man who taunted the bison & no, I wouldn’t want to cross that bridge any way — but I’d sure love to hike up to it!
There are a really great series of books called “Death in Yellowstone” (also books for Yosemite, Grand Canyon) which highlight those who make the Darwin awards. They are very fascinating books because they also document the history of the parks. Good, interesting reading!
On a side note…I’m concerned that something may be up with your web page. It is coming up “not secure” and I can’t load it from my Ipad anymore only my computer!
