Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up — Birthday Edition

Welcome to the November Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up! Since both Deborah and I are celebrating birthdays later this month, I am dubbing this the Birthday Edition. That also gives us an excuse a good reason to have cake with our coffee, so pour yourself a cup, pull up a chair, and let us know what’s going on your life. The Ultimate Coffee Date

We’d love for you to use our new badge in your coffee date posts–

Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would ask what your favorite type of cake is. While I generally love chocolate, my favorite cake is lemon pound cake. Last year my son made me the most amazing one for my birthday–there was lemon zest in the batter, a lemon glaze, and lemon frosting!

Oh so good!

If we were having coffee, I would ask if any family members share your birthday month. My daughter’s birthday is a few days after mine, so for many years my birthday celebration took a back seat to hers. At least I never had to go to Chuckee Cheese on my birthday.

Now sharing my day with her is a real treat!

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you try to take the day off on your birthday. I usually don’t, but since I have a BIG one this year I am trying to keep my work calendar clear in case I want to treat myself to a spa day.

Coco’s 4th Birthday

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you enjoy surprise parties. My husband pulled off a huge surprise party when I turned 30–I had absolutely no idea anything was in the works. I still don’t know how he managed it—or how he got our kids to stay mum.

  1. well I am usually a yellow cake chocolate frosting girl but that lemon cake does look good too. My hubs birthday is 2 days after mine so we usually celebrate all week long. Hope you have a fantastic birthday!

  2. Chocolate PB all the way. 🙂

No family members share my birthday month, but friends & some if my husband’s family do & one of my mom’s best friends birthday is the same day as mine.

Never really had a surprise party, although sort of — friends in college surprising me with cake. I’m introverted & have always had a small circle of friends. I did pull off a surprise party for my husband once.

    Happy birthday month!

  3. I love chocolate cake! Have a happy birthday!

  4. Nothing beats chocolate cake for me! I hope you get that spa day!

    Happy birthday month 🙂

  5. I am a chocolate fan as well but had a lemon bread a while back and was surprised how much I liked it! I hope you have a great birthday. I do not care for surprise parties or surprises in general. Im boring.

  6. Happy big birthday month! I have a big birthday this year, too; and I’m birthday buddies with Deborah (although she’s many years younger than me)! My dad’s birthday was four days after mine.

I’m a huge fan of chocolate cake with white icing, but white cake with white icing is a close runner up.

    Thank you for the linkup!

What a cute 4th birthday pic! My Mother’s homemade caramel cake was to die for. I’ve found nothing close…ever. We do get our birthday off at work. But, I usually swap it for a different day. Happy BIG Birthday month! Thanks for coffee.

  8. I’d have to say my favorite cake is the traditional white “graduation” cake with white frosting (and I better be served a corner piece, thank you very much). My birthday (March 14) is all on my own, but the hubby’s (April 1) is two weeks later….and he pulled off a pretty big surprise shindig for my 40th…not sure how he managed one!

  9. Darlene says:

My hubby’s b-day is 12 days after mine. I had a surprise party for my 30th.

Happy Birthday to you. Hope you have a great moth.

I prefer pies to cake but I do like carrot cake and lemon cakes.

  10. Clarinda says:

That pound cake looks super tasty! I love chocolate, but pretty much any cake would be tasty. My dad’s birthday is a couple weeks after mine, but I don’t remember ever sharing a birthday party with him. You definitely deserve a spa day for your birthday, so I hope you get to take one!

  11. White cake with white frosting, boring I know but I love it! I have never had a surprise party. I am not sure how I would feel about a surprise party.

I’m generally of the “if it’s not chocolate it’s not worth it” school of thought when it comes to desserts but that cake looks delicious!

  14. Farrah says:

Happy birthday month! I haven’t had a lemon pound cake in ages, so that sounds really tasty! I’ve had a day off on my birthday only once (but only because I scheduled vacation for that day, haha). I hope you have a good one!! I get flustered with huge surprises, but I always appreciate the thought that goes into it!

  15. Happy early birthday! Homemade lemon pound cake is soo good! My sister and share a birthday month – August! I love big birthday surprises, though I kept things extremely low-key for my 30th last year. Thanks for hosting the linkup!

  16. Janice says:

Happy Birthday! My favourite cake is cherry cheesecake, yum! I hope your husband manages to pull off another good surprise for you!

  17. Happy birthday! I am a passionate lover of cheesecake and I love surprise parties! Such a great link up, Coco!
