Today is my birthday! While I usually dedicate my birthday posts to the story about the birthday I skipped–and the important health lesson I learned afterwards–this year I’m in the mood for some fun.
My 5th Birthday Party
When I was little, my parents always made a big deal about my birthday. I had parties where I invited all the kids in my class, we played classic party games, and I had a fancy homemade birthday cake.
My daughter was born a few days after my birthday, so for a long time her birthday overshadowed mine–and I didn’t mind. We were still celebrating, and there was still cake!
From our hike in Boulder last weekend
Now that my daughter is on her own, I have my birthday to myself again, but I need some ideas of how to celebrate.
Two years ago, the .US 12K fell on my birthday, and I had a great race–and a great post-race birthday beer. But they aren’t even holding the race this year.
The year before that, I made up my own birthday “triathlon” and celebrated by running, cycling, and ice skating–and then getting cupcakes.
Today I plan to start my day with a run, have lunch with friends, and have dinner at home with my family. It’s not much of a birthday hullabaloo, but I’m sure there will be cake. 🙂
I’ll also have to fit a Starbucks run into my schedule.
Did birthday rewards always expire in a day
or is that part of the new rewards program?

Today’s Wednesday Word is hullabaloo!
How do you celebrate your birthday?
P.S. Please do me a birthday favor and read one of the featured posts below about the birthday I skipped.
happy happy happy birthday, Friend.
xoxo
Happy Birthday ???????????? Wishing you a fun filled day!
My sister and I take an annual birthday trip every year. Our birthdays are 8 days apart, and for one week, we are the same age! It’s a hullabaloo for sure!
Happy Birthday, my friend!
Hah, yes, you and your sister did cause a hullabaloo at your last birthday celebration – so much fun!
Happy happy birthday! I celebrate my BIRTH MONTH! HAHAHAH 🙂
I think I’d run out of ideas!
Happy birthday! Alex and I kind of combine our birthdays. That way we can make it a real occasion!
Awe…..HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!!!! My birthday is March 14th, so there’s always St. Patrick’s stuff to do (St. Pat’s actually was my due date). One year, there was a race on my birthday which was a lot of fun….all the peeps sang to me at the finish line 😉
Birthday races are the best!
I like the birthday triathlon idea! Lets plan to do it together next year. Have a great birthday friend
Sounds great – but maybe yoga instead of swimming. 🙂
Your skipped birthday story is scary. 🙁
But happy birthday today, sure to be a much better day!
My birthday falls on a holiday. One that a lot of people go out to eat on. For years we stayed home because my husband doesn’t like crowds (or the extra expense for a holiday meal) and one year I simply put my foot down and sat I want to go out to eat!
Of course it doesn’t much help that it’s also in the worst month of winter and also often terrible weather (I was almost born in the car due to a snowstorm).
So anyway, I don’t need to have an expensive meal, so I usually find somewhere to go that isn’t outrageously priced. But now we go out. Because I’m worth it!
Have a great birthday, Coco.
Thanks for reading my birthday story. It is scary how much I ignored that DVT!
We went out for pizza. It’s what I wanted and it was great!
Happiest of birthdays to you! I hope it is your best yet and only adds to the store of wonderful birthday memories you’ve got.
Aw, thanks!
Happy Birthday Coco! My birthday is just a few days before Christmas. My parents always made sure I had a party and that it didn’t get smothered by other holiday events. My hubs has always made the day special too. These days, a nice dinner out is the celebration of choice. Maybe a spa treatment…
Both sounds like great breaks from the craziness of the holidays too!
Happy Birthday! Hope you find the time to get that Starbucks run in!
I had to! They didn’t leave me a choice!
Happy birthday, Coco! Have a wonderful day! My daughter is a November baby and now grown, too! 🙂
Thanks – and happy birthday to your daughter!
Hoping you have an amazing day for your Birthday Coco!
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great day!
Happy Birthday! I hope it’s super amazing.
Happy birthday to you!
We usually travel for our birthdays. Sometimes we do a combined trip (Mr PugRunner’s birthday is January 1, so we do a holiday vacation, and mine and little man’s are about two weeks apart). This year, I am turning 40, so I have big plans. Big. Plans. 🙂
Oh, do tell! My next BIG ONE is next year. 🙂
Happy Birthday! That picture of you on your 5th birthday is adorable! I also celebrated a birthday this past week and went on a hot air balloon ride. I have never done that so it was pretty cool.
Oh, wow, I’d be a little scared of that but it sounds like fun too!
Happy happy birthday Coco!
Happy Birthday! Crazy to share a birthday with your own kid!
Thanks! We are a few days apart, but not many! And Thanksgiving can elbow its way in to our celebrations too.
Happy birthday! I know when I got my reward in August it lasted longer than a day, but I still didn’t manage to use it…
It would be a hassle if there wasn’t a Starbucks right at my office. Even then, I had to plan an afternoon treat.
Happy belated birthday!!!
Happy Birthday!!!! Kick your heels up! I don’t like to limit the celebration to just one day- take a couple! Eat all the cake!
Thanks. OMG, my son made me the best lemon pound cake ….
Happy belated birthday! I generally avoid my birthday, but sounds like you had great stuff planned. And my do those cupcakes from last year look delicious! Almost happy birthday to your daughter, too 🙂
Happy belated birthday, Coco! We’re almost birthday buddies.
Thanks for linking up!
