Housekeeping (Bloglovin and ShareASale Affiliate Links)

I was out of town more than usual in June and let my housekeeping take a back seat. I finally had to face the dust bunnies and dirty floors over the long holiday weekend. While it wasn’t my favorite part of the weekend, it is nice to have a clean house–at least for a few days! Doing chores around the house made me realize that it’s also a good time to do some housekeeping here on my blog. Continue reading

Good Enough For Jesus

I missed church last weekend since I was at Fitbloggin, but one of my priests posts her sermons on her blog, Faith In Progress, so I was able to get a peek at what I missed.

The Gospel reading for last week was Luke 9: 51-62, where Jesus encounters people who say that they want to follow him, but first they need to attend to some personal business. As someone who doesn’t always prioritize her relationship with God, this reading hits uncomfortably close to home!

Putting the reading in context, Rev. Reese notes that even Jesus’ disciples didn’t live up to expectations:

They constantly misunderstand him, they quarrel about which of them is the greatest, they fall asleep in his hour of need, they betray and desert him on the cross, they don’t even initially believe in his resurrection.

The message she shared was this:

So maybe this isn’t a story about how to be a perfect disciple. Maybe instead it’s a story about a God who loves us perfectly, passionately, gracefully, forgivingly – despite all that other stuff.

I happened to read this shortly after writing my Healthy Declaration of Independence and joining Jill’s “I Am Enough” project, so maybe it’s no surprise that I found this meaning in Rev. Reese’s sermon:

We are good enough for Jesus.

We are good enough for God.

God loves us just as we are. Right here. Right Now.

Run Drenched With Me?

Back in April the people at Drenched offered me a free race entry to write about their Drenched 5K running series. They also gave me a free entry to give away (congrats to my winner, Laura!), and a run drenched coupon code for $10 off (now expired). According to the organizers:

The Drenched 5K is all about bringing back those memories of summer fun.  Participants will run or walk from dry to drenched through “hot zones” and drenched zones which may include mist tunnels, sprinkler minefields, spectator “sniper” zones, bubbles, fire hoses, and a 75 foot slip n slide (optional) through the finish line.

I really am not interested in doing any of the mud runs that are so popular, but this really sounds like fun to me, especially on a hot day in July–the D.C. area race is next weekend (July 13). Other cities still on the summer schedule include: Denver, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Phoenix, Kansas City, and Philadelphia.

According to the organizers, the Drenched 5K benefits local Children’s Hospitals and fundraisers for local fire fighters, and a portion of the entry fees for the D.C. event will go to the Children’s National Medical Center, which is a great children’s hospital in Washington, D.C.

Have you done a mud run?

Are you going to Run Drenched this summer?

Go Fourth 8K Third Place Race Recap

I run the Potomac Valley Track Club Go Fourth 8K every year that we are in town for July 4th. This year, the race was held at a different site, promised to be “all flat.” (We know about those promises, don’t we!)

Even though we left the house at almost 7:00 for an 8:00 start time, I had plenty of time to relax before the race. I decided the steps of this old train car were perfect for striking a pose stretching.
