Reston Perfect 10

I have so many “favorite” races I do every year, I don’t have much room in my race calendar to try new ones, but this weekend I ran a new-to-me 10 miler that I just may be adding to my list of favorites. Fittingly, it was called the Reston Perfect 10.

Reston Perfect 10 Recap
I don’t often take pictures while I’m racing, but I passed this lake on my way to the race, and vowed to take a picture when I was running by it. As you can tell by the blue sky, the weather was perfect. It was in the mid-50s when we started, and while it got sunny and warm quickly, most of the course was in the shade. But, I’m getting ahead of myself!

Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy

One reason I never tire of hearing familiar Bible stories is their timelessness. They address core human conditions that we wrestle with today–family tensions, love triangles, power struggles, jealousy. The Parable that we heard in church last week reminded me of the popular saying, Comparison is the Thief of Joy, with a twist.

Comparison Is The Thief Of Gratituted
You may know the Parable of the Vineyard Workers from Matthew 20:1-16. It starts like this:

For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for the usual daily wage [a denarius], he sent them into the vineyard.

Favorite Fall Activities

Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather turns cool, the trees turn pretty colors, and my calendar is full of fun events. To celebrate the first week of fall, I’m joining this week’s Friday Five link-up and sharing some of my favorite fall activities.

Favorite Fall Activities
1. Running. Fall is my favorite time of year for running. There is nothing like a run on a crisp, cool morning to wake me up and energize me for the rest of the day. I have several great races on my fall calendar, starting with the Reston Perfect 10 this weekend, the Army Ten Miler in October, and the US National 12K in November. Continue reading

DC Dosa Restaurant Review

Last week I had an 11 am doctor’s appointment that took much less time than I expected. (How often does that happen?!). Since it was a nice day and I had cleared my work calendar, I decided to get lunch on my way back to the office. I was close to Foggy Bottom, and remembered hearing good things about DC Dosa in the Whole Foods.

DC Dosa

As described on the DC Dosa website, “a dosa is a lentil and rice crepe/pancake, typically with a vegetable filling and an accompaniment of chutney.” I chose the “Four Lentil Dosa” for my pancake, the cauliflower and pea filling, and the cilantro sesame chutney, then I watched them prepare my dosa. It was delicious, and so filling I saved some for breakfast the next day.

My First Pure Barre Workout

Last week Pure Barre (Alexandria) hosted my Moms Run This Town group for a free, private class. I had heard about Pure Barre classes and wasn’t sure I would like it, but I will try almost any new exercise program once–especially for free. 😉 Here’s what I thought about my first Pure Barre workout.

We arrived a few minutes early wearing tank tops and capris and ready to workout in socks or bare feet. (As a group of runners, we have surprisingly well-manicured toes!) We collected light weights, a small ball, and a resistance band, and got ready to “tuck.”  Continue reading
