Healthy Airport Food On The Fly

On Sunday, I traveled from Washington, D.C. to San Diego, California. While I usually plan ahead and pack snacks so I don’t have to forage for healthy airport food, the 4:20 am text message from United telling me that my 12:22 flight was three hours delayed “due to awaiting aircraft” set me off kilter as I scrambled to rebook to a different itinerary so I could make my dinner meeting.

What I Ate On The Fly

I did pack a small bag with granola bars, almonds, and packets of Starbucks Via while I was talking to the United agent, but apparently I put it back in the pantry instead of in my bag! So, here’s a look at the relatively healthy food I found at the airport, and the other things I ate during my very long day.  Continue reading

Cycling Books For Beginners And Beyond

It’s official. I am hooked on cycling. While I used to plan my weekends around a long run, I now find myself trying to figure out how I can fit a long run and a bike ride into my busy weekend schedule. Not only that, but if there just isn’t time for both I might actually give priority to the bike ride. Who am I?

Bike 2

In all  honesty, cycling gets priority on weekends because it is easier for me to run on weekdays, but still!  Continue reading

Summer Reading Book Reviews

This post includes Amazon affiliate links for the book review books, which means that I will make a small commission if you click through and make a purchase.

It’s been a while since I’ve written a book review post. Honestly, after I didn’t really like Sharp Objects or The Glass Castle, it took me a while to get into another book. I didn’t read anything in April, and it took me until the end of May–and a trans-Atlantic flight–to finish my next book. Since then I’ve finished another book, so I thought I would put together some summer reading book reviews.

My May read was  The Husband’s Secret, by Liane Moriarty. This book  came out last summer, but it is still on best-seller lists, and I can see why. Continue reading

How To Beat The Heat

Today’s Friday Five topic comes none to soon. Even though it is barely the first day of summer, we’ve already had a heat wave, with temperatures in the 90s and sticky humidity this week. I am so not ready for this!

Beat The Heat

Here are some of my favorite ways to beat the heat.

1. Drink a watermelon slushie.

 2. Eat a refreshing salad.

3. Wear high-tech cooling sportswear.

Has anyone tried the Omni-Freeze™ ZERO sweat-activated cooling gear from Columbia?
It sounds amazing!

4. Take an ice bath.

This time of year I actually look forward to an ice bath,
especially towards the end of my long run.

 5. Play in the sprinkler!

A New 7 Minute Workout App

Last year I heard about a “7 minute workout” designed by fitness professionals to target major muscle groups in an efficient routine that also gets your heart rate up. A few months later, I did a review of several different 7 minute workout apps. Now, Johnson & Johnson has a new app out, which they call the “Official 7 Minute Workout App.”

7 Minute Workout (1)

The app will lead you through the same 7 minute workout as the other apps, but also has other great features.
